In the new founder update, the heads of Crowfall stated that the release of the MMORPG will no longer happen this year as originally planned. However, the team at ArtCraft Entertainment has apparently achieved a financial coup, and the next alpha is already on the starting blocks.
This is why the MMORPG is now set to release in 2019: The release delay is necessary because the systems are not yet where they need to be. The team will now take a step back and make corrections to the existing game until the individual core elements are ready to please players. The soft launch of Crowfall has been postponed again, after already wanting to bring it as early as possible in 2018. The initial plan was set for late 2017.
Development of new features slows down: This also means that changes to the core of Crowfall within the development team will take the highest priority, and further development on new things will be put on hold for the time being. According to the founders, the gaming experience stands above all, J. Todd Coleman & Gordon Walton.
I know this news will be a disappointment for many of you, and we share this, even though the current testers may be less surprised (…) but when faced with the choice between “doing something right” and “finishing something”, the first answer will always be the only right one.
Crowfall receives a financial boost through the licensing of MMO technology
New deal brings money into the coffers: But there was also good news. The license for the MMO engine behind Crowfall has been sold to a major MMORPG studio working on a new title. This refers not only to the graphics engine but also to the entire technology necessary to get an MMO running: accounts, characters, items, AI, zones, classes, persistence, and so forth. Crowfall has invested over 10 million dollars in this technology and has also considered licensing it to other companies.
What does this deal mean for Crowfall? The money is intended to be invested in new resources, especially in those that were previously in short supply. New people will be hired who will primarily work on optimization, bug fixing, and polishing.
Not the first time in 2018: Artcraft had already received over 6 million dollars for Crowfall earlier this year, bringing in 10 new employees for design, graphics, and programming. At that time, the development team had grown to nearly 50 employees.

When will Alpha 5.7 arrive? After the release of Update 5.6 in May, which made it possible for groups to build a kingdom, 5.7 follows. The latest update is currently being tested internally and should be released in the next three months.
5.7 focuses on maps and campaigns:
- Unique worlds can be generated with a click: mountains, rivers, valleys, fortresses, and more
- Campaigns for different seasons: spring, summer, autumn, and winter.
- Different day and night cycles with dynamic lighting effects from the sun and moon
- “The Hunger” is coming – this is the process that leads to the slow end of a campaign and consumes the world
When will the beta come? After Update 5.7, which will be very significant for core gameplay, the sprint towards beta is set to begin.
