A guaranteed way to score does not exist in FIFA 19. However, crosses are currently extremely strong – pro gamer Proownez explains in the stream how the ideal attack works.
Are crosses the new FIFA meta? This question has been asked by the FIFA community for some time. One thing is clear: Several patches have changed the game so much since release that crosses are definitely a very reliable option for attacking.
Especially two variations are currently leading to more and more goals. How they work was explained by FIFA professional and YouTuber Proownez in our stream:
The ideal crossing situations
These opportunities should be utilized: To have a good chance of scoring from a cross, the starting situation is crucial. In the video, you can see how Proownez makes a counterattack with Mbappé, pulling to the edge of the penalty area from the right – this situation is ideal for a cross.
Header-strong attackers desired: If you have a header-strong player like Cristiano Ronaldo or Flashback-Ibrahimovic in the left offensive midfield, a goal is almost guaranteed:
I specifically chose my formation because of the crossing meta, so Cristiano Ronaldo plays in the left offensive midfield. Then he always pulls in from the far left into the penalty area when I come from the right and is ready for headers.

Lob and El Tornado
Here’s how the lob cross works: “Every time I see that Ronaldo is sprinting into the penalty area, I lift the ball and play an L1 cross,” explains Proownez. For Xbox players, that would be the LB button: “That’s a lob cross that flies over the near post and dips at the far post. That’s exactly what you want when the LOM sprints in full speed. A fullback usually can’t catch up with it anymore. “
To lift the ball before crossing, you simply need to press the right stick once. Make sure to use a player with good skill ratings and that you use the correct foot: “In this situation I had Mbappé on the wing, so a right foot. If I had a left footed player, I would have done the El Tornado to get the ball onto the correct foot.”
Here’s how the El Tornado cross works: The El Tornado trick can only be performed by players with 5-star skills. Hold the L1/LB button, push the right stick in the direction of running and then 90 degrees inward. Now your player lifts the ball into the air from the spin. Now you just need to deliver the cross correctly.
How to score with a header
Timing for headers: Of course you can simply score the ball with a normal header. This variant works often enough. With some practice, however, you can also use timed finishing on headers and thus increase your scoring rate.
Start pressing the shoot button for the header only when the player is actually supposed to jump. Make sure to gauge the power of the shot well. At the moment the ball is struck, you press the shoot button again.
Ideally, you hit the ball perfectly and hammer it into the net. Tip from Proownez: “If you hit the ball too early, the shot won’t work at all. So I make sure to hit it, if at all, too late.”
