Because if everyone agreed with him, he would be doing something wrong, from his perspective:
If the so-called – from the perspective of the people – the so-called great MontanaBlack has taken apart gamescom and has pulled masses behind him like no one before, it naturally delights those who celebrate me, the fans out there, who celebrate it because they see that Uncle Monte is still the one he has always been, one of the most successful people that has probably ever existed on the Internet in the German space.
But there are also people who cannot stand me and would use that against me. But that’s okay.
However, MontanaBlack admits that he feels bad if people were shoved aside because of him. He does not condone people running after him en masse. He does not want that.
But when he walks through the hall with 35 people, he cannot see what happens 50 meters behind him.
The accusation that his community is homophobic is rejected by MontanaBlack. There may have been one or two among the 500 people following him who had issues with homosexuals. But that does not mean that the entire community should be slandered.
What does gamescom say about it? We requested a statement from gamescom on August 30:
It is particularly important to us that everyone feels safe and comfortable at gamescom. Therefore, we take the incidents surrounding MontanaBlack’s visit to gamescom and all other reported incidents very seriously and will analyze them closely. Reckless behavior, intolerance, and violence have no place at gamescom.

This does not sound like an expulsion of MontanaBlack. But perhaps next time they will be better prepared for such a mass complaint and can potentially prevent a procession through the crowd that is perceived as disturbing by so many. Perhaps the Twitch streamer can be led to a stage through a back entrance.
Already in 2020, MontanaBlack was accused by satirist Jan Böhmermann that his community was susceptible to right-wing slogans. Even then, MontanaBlack rejected that.

According to MontanaBlack, beneath the criticism and advice on what could be improved, there is also a lot of “nonsense.” MontanaBlack sees criticism as a confirmation.

Online, some called for a personal apology from MontanaBlack. The streamer himself states that others even demanded his expulsion from future gamescom events.
How did this number of security personnel come about? In a Twitch stream shortly after gamescom, MontanaBlack made it clear that this was not all planned – he too was surprised by the commotion surrounding him (via twitch):
Initially, he planned to come to gamescom with 6 security personnel, 3 for him and 3 for his companion Marc Gebauer. They thought that might not be enough, but had no benchmark for how many people would react to him – as MontanaBlack had last attended gamescom in 2018.
When MontanaBlack and Gebauer then “stepped” into gamescom, it quickly became clear that more security was needed. At the peak, they had gathered 35 security personnel: 10 bodyguards paid for by Gebauer and MontanaBlack, and another 25 bodyguards provided by gamescom.
Is indeed an exceptional occurrence in the German Twitch scene:
“As if I am El Presidente MontanaBlack”
How did MontanaBlack feel about the crowd?
Yes, it was certainly a cool feeling when I rode the escalator up, turned around and saw hundreds of people cheering for me as if I were El Presidente MontanaBlack – but otherwise I must tell you, it was rather unpleasant and not enjoyable for me.
Because you might think as an outsider that it is cool to be cheered all the time, with people shouting my name – and there are moments when people in the background scream “Monte, Monte” that you are proud of. But overall, the entire situation at gamescom was just a stress factor for me.
This is the moment on the escalator that the Twitch streamer describes:
“Almost died? I can’t take that seriously”
What does he say about the criticism of his appearance?
Amidst all the praise and ‘Oh, that was so cool,’ some people also called for a gamescom ban for Uncle Monti. Criticism, I want to mention, directed at me, how irresponsible it would be for me to attend gamescom given the number of viewers I have. They also criticized gamescom. […]
Criticism that I can understand, I also take to heart. When a young lady writes: “I almost died at gamescom yesterday” and then in the text it says “Her hair was pulled out and blabla”, I can’t take that seriously at first. […] Because that’s not something you joke about.

Böhmermann pushes the German Twitch star into the right-wing corner – He defends himself
According to MontanaBlack, beneath the criticism and advice on what could be improved, there is also a lot of “nonsense.” MontanaBlack sees criticism as a confirmation.

Böhmermann pushes the German Twitch star into the right-wing corner – He defends himself
The German Twitch streamer Marcel “MontanaBlack” Eris had a huge appearance at gamescom 2022 with a security entourage of 35 bodyguards and about 500 fans in tow. While the entourage moved through gamescom, a young woman is said to have been injured, others report being insulted in a homophobic manner or thrown to the ground. There was heavy criticism directed at the Twitch streamer and gamescom: Some said that MontanaBlack should not have attended gamescom at all. Others demand his expulsion. The streamer himself remains relaxed about it. He interprets the appearance as a confirmation of his immense success.
How was Monte’s appearance at gamescom? Although MontanaBlack is no longer the most-watched Twitch streamer in Germany, he apparently still has the largest following.
When he arrived at gamescom in Cologne, he showed up with a huge entourage of 35 security personnel. Behind him, a mass of young fans followed, shouting his name. MontanaBlack estimates that about 500 people chased after him.
This mass of people, the mix of security personnel and enthusiastic fans, did not sit well with some fair attendees.

This is the criticism directed at him: As tweets revealed, the entourage surrounding MontanaBlack behaved recklessly (via twitter):
This mass gathering is said to have resulted in unrelated fair attendees…
- being thrown to the ground
- being insulted in a homophobic manner
- being threatened to the point of experiencing panic attacks
- losing interest in gamescom
