New World announced free server transfers. These have now been postponed and there is another catch: Regions cannot be changed. This was previously communicated ambiguously in the eyes of some players. Now some players are angry and demand their money back.
This is the situation:
- Amazon promised some time ago free character transfers for New World so that groups can reunite.
- From a tweet, players inferred that this would also work across regions: Players thought they could transfer their characters from the USA to Europe and vice versa.
- This, however, was refuted – most recently in the new rules for server transfers in the forum.
- Nevertheless, the players are now angry and feel betrayed.
Ambiguous tweet about server transfers
This is what Amazon said: In a tweet regarding New World server transfers, a user asked on September 28 whether one could switch from US to EU servers.
The official Twitter account of New World then replied: “Yes, you can move between regions if you want.”
Shortly after the publication of the rules for the server transfer, there was another post with FAQs in the official forum. It now states: “Transfers are only possible within your region. Each region has a separate database, and it is not possible to assign characters to a new region.” You can also find the statement in our article about server transfers.
The curious thing: This was actually already clear. Shortly after the tweet was published, in which it was promised that one could play in other regions, the statement was already corrected in the forum by Customer Service Camulos.
There it was already stated that there is no system for changing regions.
“You need to fix this”
This is how players are reacting: After the statement was clarified again, and Amazon even admitted that the original announcement about the region change was wrong, there was an outcry in the community.
Many fans complained that they could now forget their characters. Even harsher insults were thrown around, most of which have already been deleted. The thread in the forum now has over 950 responses, and there is also discussion on Twitter.
Some players apparently started under the false premise in a different region. They apparently wanted to avoid the long queues and start playing, intending to switch later.
However, that is no longer possible. @Washy_88 explains on Twitter: “We started characters in North America because of this statement. We need to go back to the EU. We were only [on NA] because of the ridiculous queues in EU, and you said we could switch regions. You need to fix this.”
Some players are now announcing that they want “refunds”, to return New World and get their money back (via forums.newworld).
How did this misunderstanding occur? It was apparently meant in the tweet that players could play in every region – which indeed is possible. Every player in Europe can create new characters on US servers and vice versa.
Only the transfer is not possible. However, it seems this information was too well hidden, so now many players are quite angry. This adds another problem to those that New World is already struggling with:
