If you’re looking for an action-adventure with a large open world, where you can likely spend hundreds of hours in the coming weeks and months, you should find it in Crimson Desert. Estimates currently range from around 50 hours (focusing on the main story) to 200+ hours (100 percent completion).
According to the developers, the continent of Pywel is supposed to be twice as large as the playable open world of Skyrim (about 37 km²) and also larger than the map of Red Dead Redemption 2 (about 75 km²). Some statistics from the game sound almost intimidating. For example, there are supposed to be 75 bosses, 110 factions, and 173 different regions.
The extent of Crimson Desert has also been demonstrated in recent months by the numerous trailers and gameplay videos from the developers. Although there have already been dozens of hours of footage online, the latest launch trailer revealed almost unknown features such as a jetpack or a large fan as a weapon.
In short: Crimson Desert is certainly not going to fail due to a lack of pure quantity. Whether the quality of the content can also impress, and how severe potential weaknesses like the complex controls may impact the gaming experience will be revealed in our experience report on Wednesday, March 18, 2026.
