Crimson Desert was originally announced as an MMORPG. But how much multiplayer is left now? You can find all the information about it here.
Is there multiplayer in Crimson Desert? No, at the release on March 19, 2026, there will initially be no multiplayer. Although the game was originally planned as an MMORPG, it was also stated later that there would be multiplayer or MMO elements, but now the game will start as a single-player experience for now.
However, in a business report (source: irsvc.teletogether.com), it was already discussed what should happen to the game after the release, and the planning of a multiplayer was also mentioned.
Also, in a recent talk with shareholders, multiplayer was a topic. However, it was stated there that the technology would be a problem. However, it would not be completely ruled out in the future.
Multiplayer for Crimson Desert – Plans and Content
When is multiplayer supposed to come? There is no exact date for that, and whether multiplayer will actually come is currently unclear. The business report mentioned that they would consider implementation if the game is successful enough financially. The framework for it already exists.
What content is planned for multiplayer? According to an investors’ meeting, the multiplayer is supposed to be “similar to GTA” (see ResetEra.com). Players should be able to form gangs and complete various missions together. PvP elements are also in consideration in this regard.
Will players be able to create their own characters for multiplayer? Nothing is known about that so far. However, it is very likely that only the characters playable in single-player will be available here, which you can also play in single-player.
Will there be microtransactions? Probably not. In a podcast, Will Powers, Director of Marketing for Crimson Desert, explained that there will not be a cash shop for cosmetic items.
Will there be crossplay? There is currently no information on that. However, it is very likely that you will be able to enjoy multiplayer with friends on other platforms. Whether it will only be possible, as with Black Desert, for console players remains to be seen.
However, even if there are no multiplayer contents for Crimson Desert at launch, the game comes with a huge array of various features. MeinMMO editor Karsten Scholz has examined all the content in detail and believes that it can probably easily compete with an ambitious surprise from 2025: Crimson Desert is a solo experience with MMO scale and could be as successful as the big RPG surprise of 2025
