The trailers for Crimson Desert have made a big impression on fans with their mounts. However, it seems that the pleasure is only short-lived.
Why do players feel cheated? The discontent in the Crimson Desert community is growing. The cause is the trailers that set high expectations for exciting mounts.
Dragons, bears, raptors, and wolves were shown as mounts. But they are not what players expected.

False Expectations
What are the special mounts really like? Contrary to what players expected, bears, wolves, and the like cannot be used as alternatives to horses. They can only be temporarily tamed and quickly escape from submission.
Only the dragon can be properly “tamed,” but it has another major disadvantage. Although it is a single-player game, the dragon can only function as a mount about once per hour before it goes back on cooldown.
Fans feel cheated because they thought that when they heard about 30 different mounts, all of them would be tamable, and that later in the game they could ride dragons, wolves, and bears into battle, instead of continuing on the starter horse.
What are players saying about the feature? Players do not understand why the developers have made such strong restrictions in a single-player game. They feel it is unnecessary to even tame wolves, bears, and the like when the fun is only for a very short time.
The dragon’s one-hour cooldown also spoils the fun for players. Correspondingly annoyed, they write on Reddit:
- WanderingMustache: “I don’t even understand why they would do that. It’s a solo game, who am I hurting if I put the bear in the stable? Or if I want to ride the dragon for 2 hours straight? Shame on them for taking away the fun.”
- DREAM066: “Add it as a quest to learn how to tame each of them….. that’s kind of what I thought they would do. Let the better mounts have obviously harder missions.”
- RocMerc: “They have entire trailers showing mounts, and you can’t keep them lol?”
- BathDepressionBreath: “Something like a 5-minute cooldown? Sure. Technical reasons. Balancing. Whatever. A damn hour??? And it’s not even permanent flying.”
Even though Crimson Desert is not planned as a live-service game, the desire for change in this regard is quite clear.
Crimson Desert has cool mounts, but if they can only be used briefly, players lose interest in them. Whether the developers will address this change themselves or modders will tackle the issue remains to be seen.
