Former BioWare developers are working on a new sci-fi role-playing game called Exodus. A key concept is time dilation, with which players will be confronted as an overpowering enemy.
What kind of game is Exodus? Exodus will be a new sci-fi game from former BioWare employees and a team that has been involved in projects such as Halo, The Last of Us, and Mass Effect.
In an FAQ from April 2, 2024, the developers explained the concept of “Time Dilation” in detail, which will play a fundamental role in the upcoming space RPG, and answered all questions about the phenomenon in the game.
Here is a trailer for Exodus:
Time as the Overpowering Enemy of Travelers
What is time dilation in Exodus? Time Dilation refers to the concept that time passes more slowly as one approaches the speed of light.
Specifically, this means that on your space tour, only days or weeks may pass for you, while entire years or decades may pass for people outside your spaceship.
This makes time dilation a powerful enemy of the players. The decisions made in Exodus can have far-reaching consequences that affect other characters in the game and, above all, cannot be undone:
Time dilation is the only enemy that travelers cannot escape from. The decisions we make at near-light speed have consequences that impact the people we love across generations and cannot be changed.

When asked if travelers can do anything to prevent the effects of time dilation, the answer is clear: no!
“Time dilation is an inescapable fact in our universe. To explore the galaxy, travelers must get as close to the speed of light as possible. But that means the people they leave behind age much, much faster than the travelers themselves.”
Even with items, special abilities, or technologies, the phenomenon cannot be avoided or mitigated.
When will Exodus be released? So far, no exact release date has been announced for the new sci-fi game. However, it is already certain which platforms Exodus will be released on. The release is planned for PS5, Xbox Series X, and PC.
