Creator of Final Fantasy with a new JRPG
Which creator is behind the game? Fantasian was developed by Mistwalker, the studio of “Final Fantasy” creator Hironobu Sakaguchi, who also likes to check in on FF14.
With Fantasian, Sakaguchi returns to his roots. The game is strongly linked to Sakaguchi’s time working on Final Fantasy 6 and brings many familiar elements for fans of this classic RPG genre.
This is also due to the music being composed by the celebrated “Final Fantasy” composer Nobuo Uematsu, known for his legendary soundtracks. The game was inspired by Final Fantasy 6 to create a nostalgic atmosphere.
The first part of Fantasian was released in spring 2021 exclusively on Apple Arcade. The second half was later released in the same year during summer. Given this, it is likely that the game had an exclusivity deal with Apple that lasted for two years.

A unique style with artistic elements
But the game is not a clone of Final Fantasy 6; it brings its own charm in terms of visuals and gameplay.
What is particularly enticing is its unique art style. The backgrounds are made from real handcrafted dioramas created by various Japanese special effects artists.
Artists involved have worked on Godzilla films, Attack on Titan, and Ultraman, among others. The dioramas were scanned and integrated into the game world for particularly realistic scenes.
With the Dimengeon system, you can explore the beautiful world of Fantasian at your own pace, without being constantly disturbed. It allows players to send previously encountered enemies into a separate dungeon and challenge them later after your exploration.
