Creator of Final Fantasy reveals new RPG where a machine virus destroys the world, coming to Steam & PS5

The creator of Final Fantasy presents a brand new RPG for Steam and PS5. In it, the world is threatened by a virus that transforms humans into emotionless machines.

What game is it about? The game in question is Fantasian Neo Dimension, the new JRPG by Hironobu Sakaguchi. He is primarily known as the creator of the Final Fantasy series. Nobuo Uematsu, who composed the music for the games, is also involved in the project.

Fantasian Neo Dimension tells an independent story where the world is threatened by a mechanical virus. Mechteria, as the infection is called, first takes away humans’ emotions and then their lives.

Publisher Square Enix has released a trailer on YouTube that introduces the main characters and shows the first gameplay.

What does the trailer show? The protagonist of the game is Leo. One day he wakes up from a massive explosion but remembers nothing except for his name. He then embarks on a quest for his lost memories. 

Classic JRPG with beautiful dioramas

On his journey, Leo is initially accompanied by Kina and Cheryl, who you also see in the trailer. Over time, more characters will join you. The gameplay strongly resembles classic JRPGs, with battles occurring in a turn-based manner just like in the old Final Fantasy games.

The game world consists of handcrafted dioramas through which 3D characters move, as the publisher reveals on square-enix-games.com. From dense forests to dry deserts and “less conventional regions”, everything is supposed to be included.

When will the game be released?  Fantasian Neo Dimension is set to release on December 5, 2024, on Steam, PS5 and PS4, Xbox Series X|S, and the Nintendo Switch. By the way, you can already play it through the Apple Arcade subscription, where it was released in 2021.
