The start of WoW WotLK Classic was really bad on some servers. A forum post makes it clear how long the queue lasted for some players.
On the night of September 27, 2022, the release of WoW Wrath of the Lich King Classic took place. For us in Germany, the start shot was at midnight. In the USA, players could start depending on the location at 3:00 PM local time. Accordingly, the rush was great in the regions where people could play during the day.
We show you what experiences the players share about their starts.
Hours-long queues – Also in Germany?
A player writes: In the WoW forums, player Stonyj writes that he is still in the queue after a nap and still cannot play. He had probably chosen his sleep so that he could register in the queue beforehand and bridge the waiting time.
The user writes: “I got in line at 4:00 PM. Then I slept for 5 hours and I’m still in line for another two hours.” The post was made by the user on the launch day of WotLK Classic. “Holy Moly, what a long wait today,” he adds.
Other users agree and share similar experiences.
- “Since I got off work, I’ve been in the queue. […]”
- “That’s annoying. I joined the queue at a similar time and was able to get in around 9:30 PM.”
- “I’ve been in the queue since 1:00 PM and now, 8 hours later, I’m still not in. The calculation shows that I still have 1.5 hours of waiting time before I can get in and play. Until then, I have to go offline and go to bed to be ready for work tomorrow. It will get better, but not anytime soon.”
- “I joined the queue at 3:20 PM and then went to work. It’s now four minutes to 11:00 PM and I still have 40 minutes [in the queue] left.”
This is what it looks like when you get on the servers: Our WoW expert Benedict Grothaus couldn’t resist and directed to the servers right at launch. He logged in before the start and was able to wait at midnight along with hundreds of other players. Together, they all stood at the dock waiting for the boat that was to take them to Northrend. You can see how the huge group moved when the boat arrived and shortly thereafter docked in Northrend in the video:
Were the queues just as bad everywhere? No. From personal experiences and conversations with our fellow players, we know that only the popular servers had such huge queues. This was to be expected. The servers with a low population had little to no queues at all.
However, on the popular EU server Venoxis, players should also expect queues days after the release. During peak times, one might still have to wait a few minutes today. On release day, September 27, the servers were packed – and so were the queues.
