At the LoL Worlds 2019, there is the first team that will fly home on day 3. Additionally, it gets exciting in Group A: there will be tiebreaker matches between Clutch Gaming, Unicorns of Love, and Mammoth. Something is happening at the World Championships of League of Legends.
This is the situation in Group B: In Group B, there has already been the first decisive battle at the LoL Worlds 2019. There was a match between two outsiders in Berlin:
- The Japanese team “DetonatioN FOcusMe” (featured image) lost two matches on the first day but surprisingly succeeded against Splyce today: They stood with 1:2 points against the wall. They could not afford another defeat.
- The Argentinians “Isurus Gaming” won against the Japanese on the first day but lost against Splyce. They had 1:1 points now.
The match between both teams would therefore bring a preliminary decision in Group B.
63 Minutes Epic Battle – Isurus Gaming Wins
This is how the match went: On paper, it sounded like a match that wouldn’t exactly raise your heart rate.
What resulted was an epic battle over 63 minutes. Thus, it was the fifth-longest match in the history of the LoL Worlds.
The match went back and forth; each team was ahead at times but then fell behind.
In the end, the Argentinians managed to win the last decisive fight and clinch the victory.
The match ended after 63 minutes and 37 kills. That means the Japanese team has been eliminated, even though the day started so well for them and they were able to defeat the favorites from Splyce.
The excitement among the Argentinians was huge. They now have a chance to continue in the LoL Worlds.
All Equal in Group A – Tiebreakers Needed
This is the situation in Group A: In Group A, all 3 teams have managed to win 2 games and lose 2 games. The favored Americans from Clutch Gaming struggled yesterday.
This continued today: Clutch Gaming lost again to Unicorns of Love and managed to win against Mammoth. However, Unicorns of Love themselves lost for the 2nd time to Mammoth.
The results from day 3 were exactly the same as on day 1.
Therefore, there will now be decisive games in the group, the tiebreakers:
- The Unicorns of Love (Russia) and Mammoth (Australia) will play against each other. The loser will be eliminated.
- The winner of this match will play against Clutch Gaming from the USA to determine the placement.
Better Time Brings Clutch Gaming Further
Why this tiebreaker? The rule is: In case of a tie among 3 teams, the time each team used to achieve their victories is calculated. (via lol)
The two teams that took longer will face off to determine who plays against the team that took the shortest time to determine the group winner.
It is already clear that Clutch Gaming is advancing. The question remains who will be going home from Group A today. That will be decided in a few hours.
Update 21:26: Meanwhile, the tiebreaker in Group A has been played. The Unicorns of Love defeated Mammoth.
This makes the Australians the second team for whom the Worlds 2019 are already over.
