In FIFA 22 Ultimate Team, opponents can ruin a victory by quitting the game. Players demand a change in this regard.
What is the problem? Getting a win in FIFA 22 Ultimate Team can already be stressful enough. It’s particularly frustrating when the points you hoped for disappear because the opponent simply quits the game.
However, this can happen in Ultimate Team, for example in Division Rivals or the Weekend League. Here, one must differentiate between certain cases:
- If your opponent quits the game while you are leading, everything is good – you usually get the win.
- If, however, your opponent quits during a draw, they get credited with a loss – but you do not get a win credited. Then you can only replay the game against a new opponent.
The latter situation can be really frustrating while hunting for rewards, since wins are what count here. The situation is particularly bitter in examples like these:
- Your opponent equalizes happily in the last minute after you have dominated the game. Instead of going into extra time, they quit the game, taking away your chance for the win.
- Conversely: You have fought for an equalizer after a long, hard game and might even turn the game around – but the opponent quits.
- Particularly bitter: It’s tied shortly before the end and you get a penalty, but the opponent disconnects and you cannot execute it.
- Your opponent receives red cards and has a weakened team, but instead of continuing to play, they quit during a draw.
These are just examples that can happen again and again in FUT – and sometimes do. The particularly nasty part is that the opponent essentially gains nothing from this, except perhaps time and the fact that you yourself do not get a win.
Many players have been complaining about this handling for a long time. This has now been discussed again in the FIFA subreddit.
Players annoyed: “I played the whole game and the extra time for nothing”
This is what the community says: A post was shared in the FIFA subreddit that currently has over 1,000 upvotes and more than 200 comments.
User “oohjustalittlebit” explains there that, from his point of view, a lot of toxicity would be removed from the game if quitting – or leaving the game – by the opponent would fundamentally mean that you yourself get the win.
“If someone leaves the game halfway through, the other person should just get the win in the end,” the post says. “The number of people that quit when they score a lucky equalizer or are about to take a penalty or just don’t feel like playing against you anymore is obscene” (via reddit).
Several users commented that they have been wishing for a change in this direction for a long time:
- “This should have happened years ago, and I’m still amazed that it hasn’t,” writes user Hack-a-Lonzo (via reddit).
- “We have been demanding this for years, at least give us a solid explanation for this nonsense,” criticizes user “pwomboli” (via reddit).
- “I have so many people quitting because they don’t want to play against my possession-based style, and the only reason I play this style is that everyone plays 10 deep counter-attacks and it is impossible to quickly break through their defense once you are in Division 1/Elite,” describes user “RichHii3” (via reddit).
- “I played a classic cup match where the opponent quit because they missed the first penalty in the shootout,” reports another user (via reddit): “It would have only taken a few minutes longer to finish the game, and it would still have been 0:0. […] It’s crazy how far people go to avoid a loss. That should have definitely counted as a win since I played the whole game and extra time for nothing.”
Overall, most commentators advocate for such a change. However, some are also pointing out that it might lead to new problems. For example, players might start trying to annoy opponents into quitting if they know that they could get a quick win that way.
