Counter-Strike 2 has upset numerous fans. But with a simple trick, you can still play the popular CS:GO on Steam. MeinMMO reveals how you can do it.
The gaming universe is constantly in motion, and the release of Counter-Strike 2 has divided the community. Not everyone was ready to give up their beloved CS:GO and embrace the successor.
In fact, Counter-Strike 2 has achieved an astonishing feat since its release about two weeks ago – but not necessarily in a positive way. The game is currently one of the worst-rated games from Valve. Players are longing for CS:GO. But with a simple trick, you can now play the popular shooter again.
CS:GO Steam comeback: A rescue in the library
What is this trick? For all those who have not warmed up to Counter-Strike 2 yet, there is a rescue in the Steam library. The popular CS:GO is still available, even if it is not immediately obvious.
Here’s how to find CS:GO on Steam:
- Go to your Steam library and search for Counter-Strike 2.
- Right-click to select the properties.
- Go to
Betas
and select the option for the CSGO legacy version from the dropdown menu.
Voilà! You now have access to a frozen
version of Global Offensive, which you can theoretically play forever.
Where’s the catch? However, on January 1, 2024, Valve will cease all support for CS:GO – the game will no longer receive updates. Moreover, no official matchmaking will be supported for CS:GO. You should still be able to play CS:GO via community servers.
In a world full of innovations and exciting developments, sometimes it’s the old memories that mean the most. The continued existence of CS:GO on Steam, albeit with restrictions, is a small consolation for all those who still love the game.
