In Fortnite: Battle Royale, the big live event about the Ice King and his orb is starting tonight. Here you can see where you can optimally watch the event. The countdown has already started.
Update 19:47: By now, all special game modes in Fortnite have been disabled – including the playground mode. Only Solo, Duo, and Team are available. Additionally, the Creative mode.
The last time Epic disabled the “Playground” mode was because players would have missed the butterfly event in the playground.
What exactly is happening in Fortnite right now? For some time now, a mysterious ice orb has been hovering over the castle at Polar Peak. There, the dark Ice King, the level 100 skin from the current Battle Pass, can now be seen.
The orb is indestructible and nothing can be done with it. However, there are clear indications that something will happen with the orb today.
When does the event start today? A countdown has appeared on the TVs in the game. Therefore, it is likely to start at 20:00 our time and some kind of ice storm will break out.
There is also some kind of countdown around the orb that seems to be running out.
A series of symbols surrounds the orb. However, the symbols disappear over time. It is assumed that they will vanish simultaneously with the event at 20:00.
You won’t miss anything from the event here
If you want to experience the event live today, you must be at the castle on Polar Peak in time. Something will happen with the orb at 20:00. There are various ways to follow the event:
Courtyard of Polar Peaks
The advantages of this position: You cannot fall down and have quick cover available. Alternatively, you can also go into the outbuildings of the castle and watch from the roof.
The disadvantages of this position: You are very far from the orb and might not see everything.
Tower of Polar Peaks
The advantages of this position: You are closer to the orb and still on safe ground that is not easily shot down.
The disadvantages of this position: You are still relatively far away and might miss something. Additionally, the tower is quite small and may be heavily contested.
Ramp to the Orb
The advantages of this position: Here you can build a ramp from the tower or ground directly to the orb. You will be extremely close and definitely won’t miss anything!
The disadvantages of this position: You are completely exposed here, and if a prankster shoots down your ramp, you will fall to your death. Then you will miss the event and might even die. As a precaution, however, you can pack balloons to stay in the air when the event starts.
Also, watch out for anyone grabbing a plane and racing through your ramp!
Plane
The advantages of this position: With a plane, you can circle around the orb and thus be very close as well. At the same time, the plane can take quite a bit of damage and can defend itself well with its onboard gun.
The disadvantages of this position: Planes are not infinitely available and may all be gone. Also, the planes are still destructible, and if things go badly, you will get shot down before it starts. Where you might find planes, you can find out here.
What to do if you still go down? It’s best to stay in the game and watch another nearby player. The chance that you will start a new game before it starts is rather low.
Zombies and more ice?
What will happen at the event? There are many theories about this. Many fans assume that the Ice King will freeze large parts of the map. Also, there may be a return of the non-zombies from the Halloween event. Then you will again have a cool PvE element in the game.
Additionally, there are hints of a special ice event, in which you can complete several daily tasks for cool goodies. A similar event was held at Christmas. There are also rumors of a PvE boss fight against the Ice King.
