Runewaker, the studio that developed the MMORPGs Runes of Magic and Dragon’s Prophet, is currently working with Guardians of Ember on a hack ‘n slash that feels like a mix of MMORPG and Diablo.
The story of Guardians of Ember takes place in the fantasy world of Olyndale, which has fallen into chaos due to years of war. You are a so-called “Guardian of Ember” who belongs to a brotherhood that has always stood against dark forces. Only this brotherhood can restore order in Olyndale. To do this, magical stones known as Ember must be found, hidden within the land.
As chance would have it …
You create your character from six classes. Once you reach level 15, you may choose a second class, which combined with more than 300 skills allows for interesting combinations. The game world consists of 58 regions where you can explore more than 60 randomly generated dungeons. There, hordes of monsters await you, and you must face them to find the magical stones. Crafting is equally important, as this is the only way to create the best equipment in the game.
Guardians of Ember is a mix of hack ‘n slash games like Diablo and MMORPGs. You share the world with many players, can team up in a party, or compete against each other in PvP battles. Various options are available such as 1-vs-1 duels, 3-vs-3, and 5-vs-5 in ranked matches or unranked play. You follow the story through many quests. If you want to take a break between adventures, it is possible to acquire a house and decorate it according to your taste.
Fast as Diablo 3
As seen in the trailer, the fast-paced, action-packed battles are similar to those in Diablo 3. Legions of enemies stand in your way, which you must defeat either alone or with friends. The search for loot and resources is also just as important as interacting with other players.
There are many Diablo clones, of which only a few are fun. Guardians of Ember could be among them. The Diablo principle of fast, action-packed battles against hordes of enemies and the quest for loot still appeals to players. The MMO elements could also fit well and bring fresh air to the action RPG genre. I am already looking forward to early access and will definitely check out Guardians of Ember. This could become an interesting competitor to Lost Ark and Lineage Eternal.
