Weeks before the upcoming Pokémon GO Fest on July 17 and 18, 2021, the first images of the costumed Pokémon have now been released. We have summarized what the costumes look like and what the community thinks about it.
What happened? For the Pokémon GO Fest, which takes place globally from July 17 to July 18, 2021, a few Pokémon will also don costumes this year. Niantic has already announced that there will be costumed Pikachu at this event, available as either Pop-Star or Rock-Star (via pokemongolive.com).
But other Pokémon such as Galar-Ponita, Galar-Zigzachs, Gardevoir, and Libelldra are also expected to be found in costume on that day. As reported by the Dutch online magazine NWTV on their site, there were first sightings of the new costumes in an advertisement for the Go Fest 2021 (via nwtv.nl). Now the first images of the costumed Pokémon are being shared on Reddit.
Here’s what the costumes for the GO Fest 2021 look like
In the images that are being shared on Reddit, there are costumed Galar-Ponita, Galar-Zigzachs, Gardevoir, and Libelldra visible. At first glance, all the Pokémon appear completely normal, and the costumes are hardly noticeable.
However, upon closer examination, it becomes apparent that all four Pokémon are wearing the same cream-colored hats. No other costume adornments are visible in these images. Compared to costumes that Niantic has released in the past, these seem rather dull and boring.
What the community says about the costumes for the Pokémon Go Fest 2021
The community has clear words regarding the costumes. For instance, Reddit user denleeve states that he finds it simply embarrassing and cannot understand how a profitable company like Niantic cannot afford decent 3D designers (via reddit.com).
Other users express their disappointment on Reddit. Huskerfan4life520 writes that he had no expectations but was still disappointed. Trainer WolfGuy77, on the other hand, shares on Reddit: “No. I didn’t get a shiny Galar-Zigzachs last time. I don’t want one with a silly hat that can’t evolve” (via reddit.com).
There have been past instances where costumed Pokémon could not evolve in the game. For example, the costumed Pikachu from the Halloween event 2020 could not evolve into a Raichu. However, this does not apply universally to all costumed Pokémon. If costumed evolutions are also available in the game, evolution is possible too.
