Final Fantasy XIV has had a photo mode for some time and continues to expand the option. The latest addition allows players to use different emotes in this mode, among other things.
What is /gpose? The group pose or short /gpose is a feature in FFXIV, that allows players to take particularly cinematic screenshots. By using the chat command “/gpose”, players gain access to a special interface that enables them to utilize different functions of the feature.
For example, you can:
- Apply color filters over the screen
- Change brightness as desired
- Make the character perform an emote or freeze in a desired pose
- Try different frames

What’s new? With the upcoming patch 4.5, which will be online on January 8, the friends of /gpose will get new options. In the first place, players will be able to use this feature when their character has been “transformed” into something else, for example, into another character during an event.
Although it was already possible for players to use various emotes within the Gpose feature, they had to leave the /gpose window if they wanted to use another emote. That is now over, as the photo mode will get a new special menu window that enables the switching of emotes directly within the photo mode.
It will also be possible starting with patch 4.5 to give the screenshot more depth by adjusting the focus and thus blurring the foreground or background.
Is /gpose even used? A photo feature may sound like a fleeting fun, but in Final Fantasy XIV the community has turned it into a real art form. Players post their screenshots on social media and forums every day. There are entire Instagram and Twitter profiles with hundreds of followers dedicated to creating cool pictures.
To support the popular feature, third-party tools have also been developed that function like overlays and, for example, allow adjusting the color saturation or sharpness of a screenshot. Even though their legality is rather questionable.

Regular online magazines like GPosers, created by fans, deal extensively with the topic and are very popular in the community. The “gPose pros” reveal many tricks regarding which functions are available for /Gpose and which settings in third-party tools yield the best results.
The new features for /gpose will certainly be used well and frequently in the future.
One week after patch 4.5, the new limited job Blue Mage will also be released:
