In the MMORPG ArcheAge, a dispute between a 20-year-old and a peer of the same age escalated. One of the men is now facing charges of attempted murder and armed burglary.
This is known about the act:
- Two men got into an argument in the MMORPG ArcheAge. What exactly happened is not known. The later accused, 20-year-old Edward Kang, says that the other person was “a bad person online.”
- As the police found out, Kang booked a flight from Newark, New Jersey, to Jacksonville, Florida. That’s about 1,400 kilometers – the flight takes 4 hours.
- Upon arriving at the destination, Kang checked into a hotel and bought a hammer and a flashlight at a hardware store. This is known because receipts were found in his hotel room. Then he made his way to the house of “his enemy” in Fernandina Beach and attempted to bludgeon his “enemy.”

This is how the attack went down: A report indicates (via yahoo) that King was dressed completely in black and wore a mask. He entered the victim’s house through an unlocked door and attacked the victim with the hammer as he was about to go to the bathroom.
The victim screamed for help, waking his stepfather.
Together they were able to disarm, tackle, and overpower the attacker.
A picture in the Yahoo report shows the bloodied weapon. It was not a war hammer or anything weapon-like, but actually an ordinary handyman’s hammer that you can buy anywhere.
Attacker told family he wanted to meet an “old friend he knew from a game”
This is what happens to the attacker: Kang has checked into the Nassau County jail and is charged with armed robbery and second-degree attempted murder. These are cases that do not involve real preparation and rather aim to injure the victim rather than kill.
Kang had told his family that he was flying to Florida to “meet a friend he met years ago in a video game.”
As the police say, neither the perpetrator nor the victim had met in real life before the attack.
This is what the sheriff says: The sheriff in charge stated that upon his arrival, he found a considerable amount of blood in the entrance area of the house and in the bedroom. The victim suffered “serious wounds” to the head from the attack but has since been discharged from the hospital.
The sheriff says: The investigation is still ongoing, and the charges could become more serious.
Reportedly, Kang also asked him how much time he would have to serve in prison for the burglary and robbery.
