What would Conan Exiles be without battles? Funcom explains how the fights unfold in the upcoming survival RPG.
That the barbarians in the grim world of Conan are not exactly gentle is already demonstrated by the quote from the movie Conan the Barbarian. When asked what the best thing in life is, the warrior answers: “To fight the enemy, to chase him, and to destroy him, and to rejoice in the screams of women!” And that is exactly what you will do in the survival RPG.
Conan Exiles: Craft Weapons
But before you can follow Conan’s example, you first need weapons. Because you start almost naked in the dangerous world. So you need to gather raw materials to craft simple weapons. This way you will craft spears, axes, or swords.
Each weapon can be used in different ways. A spear can be thrown or used to poke. A sword can be wielded one-handed or with a shield, with which you can also deflect arrows, for example. Or you can forge yourself a powerful two-handed sword, which allows you to keep enemies at bay and, with the force of the weapon, even destroy armor.
Ranged weapons like bows or crossbows allow you to attack from cover or bring down flying enemies from the sky. If you discover an explosive barrel in a hostile camp, you can shoot it to blow it up. However, you also use weapons like a club to beat down enemies. You then drag them to your camp, where you break their will at the Wheel of Pain and make them your slaves.
Tactical but also brutal
In battles, you have to study the movements and attacks of enemies and use two types of attacks – fast and light as well as slow and heavy. Simply smashing won’t get you far. Every attack should be well thought out. You must recognize when to use which type of attack. Additionally, you block attacks and dodge them. Furthermore, not every weapon has the same effect on every enemy.
As you level up, you can increase attributes that also affect combat. With more strength, you cause more damage in close combat. Improving your athleticism increases your defense. If you invest points in stamina, you perform better in longer engagements. The battles in the survival RPG Conan Exiles are not only tactical but also brutal. Limbs may fly, and blood will spray. Every defeat should be seen as a new opportunity, as you learn from your mistakes and will certainly do better next time.
