Conan Exiles has become a huge success shortly after its release. It has sold more than Funcom expected. The popularity is also reflected in the ratings and player numbers. The initial rush even overwhelmed the official servers.
Conan Exiles was sold over a million times even before the end of Early Access. The survival game is a top seller on Steam, and the ratings are significantly better than in the first year of development.
The rush was too great, new servers were needed
The release of Conan Exiles was more successful than Funcom had planned. In the first hours, so many players wanted to play simultaneously that the official servers were overloaded and not everyone could secure a spot.
The interest of the players was so great that some of the PvP enthusiasts even switched to PvE servers to be able to play right from the start. However, in the hours and days following the launch, Funcom added more servers for all regions.
Since the game’s release, the number of players has even continued to grow. On Steam alone, nearly 4 times as many players have logged into Conan Exiles compared to just a few weeks before release.
The positive development of player numbers since the release is likely also due to the fact that Funcom brought new servers online for PC and PS4 shortly after the release. With the new official servers, more players can play simultaneously.
Steam players rate better
That Conan Exiles is well-received is also reflected in the ratings on Steam. When the game was first playable in Early Access in January 2017, the following reviews were “mixed”. Conan Exiles has recorded 66% positive ratings since the beginning.
The recent reviews from the last 30 days, however, give the game 74%. The majority of negative reviews particularly criticize the removal of the conflict servers, which distinguished Conan Exiles from other games of the genre.
However, Funcom has already confirmed that the conflict servers will return. Whether this will reflect in the reviews in the coming days remains to be seen.
