At first glance, many might rub their eyes: No, this is not a new Age of Conan, but Conan Exiles. A promising survival MMO that is currently under development and is making waves again with new screenshots.
It is still quite unclear what exactly to expect from Conan Exiles. The game is being developed by Funcom – they are a well-established name as an MMO specialist. However, they are also in transition and have announced a new strategy. They want to create a survival game from the Conan license, with which they already have experience (Age of Conan), because they believe it’s an attractive market, where no game has really established itself as “THE game” yet. Great hopes are placed in the online multiplayer.
Early access release of Conan Exiles delayed, but for more quality?
First the bad news: Players who would have liked to take a peek this year will now unfortunately have to wait. The early access of Conan Exiles has been delayed to early 2017. However, the survival offshoot in the Conan universe has been granted additional development time. The Norwegians justify this with increased quality standards due to potential, and also that Funcom is recovering after averting insolvency.
The company recently received a financial boost, which should especially benefit the new games. The development studio is now showcasing this with new screenshots that they present in a blog post. The message is: A lot has happened here in recent months.
Still, they look even better on the Nvidia homepage – where you can see them in 360° and especially VR users should be able to enjoy them even more.
A little insight into Conan Exiles – young barbarians discover the world
In Conan Exiles, survival is the focus. As a player, you take on the role of a penniless, naked survivor. Gradually, you must hunt, stave off hunger, craft items, explore the world, and build a new home. Brutal battles with flying body parts are to be expected, and it is based on a movie that may be familiar to many: “Conan the Barbarian“.
There is still little information about the roles of other players on the servers – only that they will also fight for scarce resources: PvP is an integral feature in the open world of Conan Exiles. This also includes protecting your established settlements from invasions. These can be built with other players, as seen in the following video. This means: not only against each other, but also together.
Also encouraging: Funcom announced that the barbarian game will also be released in German – for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
