The survival game Conan Exiles has received a release date for PC and Xbox One. It will enter Early Access.
On January 31, Conan Exiles will enter Early Access, as announced by the developers at Funcom. This is initially only for PC. The Xbox One version is expected to follow in spring 2017. Sony still has reservations about Early Access for any game, which has been frustrating some developers for a while.
A new trailer is also in tow.
Conan Exiles aims to conquer the survival genre, just as League of Legends did with the MOBA genre
Joel Bylos, the game director, has been known to Funcom fans for a while. Most recently, he was responsible for The Secret World, before moving on to a then-still-secret project. Bylos says: “The time is right for Conan to conquer the survival genre.” Conan Exiles is not an empty sandbox, he reveals, but rich in secrets waiting to be uncovered.
Conan Exiles was originally planned for September 2016. However, Funcom postponed it to improve quality. In the meantime, the Norwegian studio had received a capital injection. Conan Exiles fits perfectly into Funcom’s new, promising strategy. They have a good understanding of the material – Funcom has been managing the MMORPG Age of Conan for years. Now they are betting on a breakthrough in a trend genre.
After all, the survival genre is quite popular and filled with several titles. However, there is a lack of a clear favorite, like WoW is for MMORPGs or League of Legends is for MOBAs. This favorite – it should become Conan Exiles, at least if you ask the Norwegians at Funcom.
