Conan Exiles throws you into a wild and harsh world, and if you don’t quickly gain experience and level up, you will quickly fall behind in the battle for survival. While everything in the game gives you a bit of experience, some methods are more bearable than others.
Read here how to gain experience especially quickly and outshine all other barbarians on the server. Especially on PvP servers, this is vital for survival, so pay close attention!

Conan Exiles – Start as a Nomad – The First Steps
First, when creating your character, choose the cannibal patron god Yog. Once you are rescued from the cross, you should take a good look around and definitely(!) take the waterskin with you. Many players overlook it. Once you have water, head north to the river and collect about 30 stones and 50 branches along the way.
Once at the river, collect even more and craft a pickaxe, an axe, and possibly the stone sword.
If you want to start building stones for a first shelter: STOP! Especially on PvP servers, the first shelters are useless because any malicious barbarian kid can mockingly tear down your hut.
So be a nomad for now and move west until you reach the K-12 region on the map. There are a lot of gazelles living there.
Level Guide – Tastes like Chicken! – How to Reach Level 15
Farm some resources in this area and try your hand at hunting gazelles. Try to drive the creatures so they get stuck in the terrain, making it easier for you to take them down.
Once you have enough resources, build a campfire where you can hide your supplies (campfires cannot be looted by other players) and lay out a sleeping mat. This way, you can respawn here upon your death.
Once you are able, construct a “Pit of Yog”. This will get you a bone club with which you can kill other NPCs and harvest their tasty meat. Human flesh does not spoil, provides you food and water, grants experience, and even regeneration! Do this for a while until you have a larger amount of supplies.
Then pack up the essentials and head up to the region around G9. Don’t worry if you have to leave some of your stuff behind. You can always return and resupply.
Once there, you should arrive at an oasis-like area with a cliff path. There are a lot of gazelles that often get stuck in the rocks. So you can farm these creatures particularly easily. Do this for a good hour until you are about level 15. As soon as possible, you should definitely craft the javelin spear, which is a good weapon until you can finally create iron weapons.
Speed-Leveling with Gazelles – To Level 30
Once you reach level 15 or need iron, move on to E7. But be careful not to enter the corrupted region. You should find a lot of iron in the area, but watch out for hyenas.
Build a furnace, a smithy, and possibly other crafting stations and craft your better equipment. With this, you will hack your way through the creatures in the area. Even rhinoceroses should not be much of a problem if you walk around them and hit them in the sides. Do this for four to eight hours.
Then you should have no problems hunting and consuming the NPCs in the city. Do this until you are about level 30.
Level Guide – Steel and Base Building – How to Reach Level 40
Now you should finally think about establishing a permanent residence. Make sure your base can be well defended. Ideal locations for this would be at F7, E7, F8, and E8. Ideally, you should build the base on a cliff so that it can only be accessed with stairs.
If you need to go out for a longer farming trip, simply tear down two stairs and no one can get in. When you want to return, you just rebuild the missing stairs.
Don’t forget to gather sulfur and tar for steel production. How to create steel is explained in our Steel Guide. To further level farm, head northwest to D6 on the map. There, a lot of Stygian roam, whom you can easily take down with your steel weapons.
Harvest meat and don’t forget to farm rhinoceroses. You can find them at E7, E6, and D5. This way, you should be able to reach level 40 without much effort.
