Hello everyone. Yes, I know, the topic World of Warcraft is somewhat exhausted in more than one way, but last weekend hit me with another blow.
Every weekend a new annoying bonus event
I’ve complained in the past (it feels like multiple times) about the weekend events of World of Warcraft and I still think they were not a really good idea. The absolute low point for me was last weekend when you could earn reputation for completing heroic dungeons in Draenor. This would be bearable if reputation wasn’t distributed so inflationarily that everyone who earned reputation before this event feels like a complete fool. A good example is the faction “Laughing Skull.” If you wanted to befriend the crazier orcs, you had to spend many hours beating up botanists, orcs, and animals in the Tanaan Jungle just to notice any progress.
The devaluation of achievement
To illustrate my unspeakable suffering: I definitely spent 24 hours pure farming time there to work my way up to the reputation level “Exalted.” If you didn’t want to do that, you simply had to visit the dungeon “Everbloom” 4 times. Each visit dropped nearly 12,000 reputation points, which corresponds to a time investment of not quite 30 minutes. Just for comparison: A single enemy of the “old” version granted 6 reputation points. So you had the opportunity to maximize your reputation not only on your main character but also on all other twinks, second and third accounts, and even on your roommates’ characters.
Next week will drive me to the brink again. Then there’s triple experience points for pet battles. And once again, with a friendly smile, they’ll show me what a pointless waste of time it was to level my 110 companions to the maximum level and really invest time in it.
By now, I probably sound like all those “Everything was better back then” people who say that you really had to work for achievements back in the day. And yes, at the moment it feels that way. The reputation factions really aren’t anything to get worked up about, yet I still do. I took the time to farm reputation. That has been devalued. It bothers me. Grrr.
But enough of the whining. Let’s just hope that Gamescom brings us many exciting innovations and that the next part of World of Warcraft is at least a bit more thought out than the last one. We’ll see each other in a week. If I had to guess now: It will be about the new WoW expansion …
