Usually, development studios do not disclose how many players their MMOs have. However, Daybreak Games has revealed the exact player numbers in a brochure distributed by the new owner EG7 to investors. We now know the current player numbers for The Lord of the Rings Online, Everquest 1 and 2, Planetside 2, and DC Universe Online.
Where do the numbers come from? The Swedish company Enad Global 7 purchased the developer studio Daybreak for 300 million dollars. A brochure containing information about Daybreak’s portfolio and player numbers for the individual titles was distributed to investors. This brochure is publicly accessible (via enadglobal).

What do the numbers look like? We are focusing here on the main titles of Daybreak and sharing the player numbers provided. These are from September 2020: The value “MAU” means that a user has logged in at least once within a month:

Given the numbers, it is no surprise that Daybreak and EG7 continue to invest in the MMORPG The Lord of the Rings Online and are apparently planning a graphics upgrade for PS5 and Xbox Series X/S.
What do the numbers mean? Daybreak not only provided the figures, but also how much revenue has been generated with the players based on these player numbers since the beginning of the year. This shows how successful the titles are – as of September 2020.
- Everquest – 11.5 million US dollars
- Everquest 2 – 6.5 million US dollars
- LotRO – 9.9 million US dollars
- DC Universe Online – 26.7 million US dollars
- Planetside 2 – 7.9 million US dollars
It can be seen that the games are still worthwhile for Daybreak and thus for the new owner EG 7.
Especially DC Universe Online seems to be a gold mine. This also explains why the game has been introduced to new systems in recent years.
