A British company has posted an unusual job vacancy: For a salary of £30,000, an employee will only play games for an entire year. This appears to be a promotional stunt to raise awareness for a hardware provider.
What kind of company is this? The company OPSYS (roughly: Overpowered Systems) is a British hardware seller based in Stockport: A company where you can assemble your own PC.
The company presents itself offensively and edgy with a “in-your-face” attitude. They want to make it clear: Our PCs blow regular PCs away and fry their circuits with their incredible superiority. When you play on our PC, you are automatically a legitimate gamer. We speak your language, and it is IMBA.

This is the job offer: The logic behind the job posting is: “Before we pay €33,000 to a marketing agency, we’d rather give it directly to you.”
The job consists of gaming on OP Systems’ computers. The applicant needs no prior experience. It is even stated that anyone who has done anything else in life besides gaming needs a good explanation for it.
It becomes clear that they are looking for a gamer who has a problem with their normative, bourgeois parents. They would have ruined the potential applicant’s life with a terrible name. They are seeking people who have been rejected by their parents because they are addicted to games and constantly play. Parents hate that, as we know.
They want the ultimate gamer for the job: One who doesn’t need to read about games because he already knows everything. He should practically have fallen into a cauldron of gamer potion as a child.
How to get the job? To apply for the job, you must post a 60-second video on Twitter, YouTube, or Instagram explaining why you are the right person for the job and want to become a professional gamer. You must tag “OPSYS_gaming” on Twitter or Instagram and use the hashtag #OPSYSDreamJob with the video.
The application period lasts until April 9th. The job starts on August 1st, 2021, and allegedly comes with a contract for £30,000 over 12 months.

What to consider: Some companies that configure PCs are often accused of being too expensive. Experienced PC builders frequently complain: If you assemble the PC yourself, it becomes much cheaper. Therefore, companies try to attract attention through special promotions.
This all doesn’t sound very serious. At the moment, it seems that no one has applied for the job: The hashtags on the platforms are still empty.
How serious the job is, is difficult to assess. It appears to be a young company trying to gain attention with an aggressive PR stunt. The British PC Gamer raises its eyebrows skeptically and complains about the “outdated concept” of what a gamer is. The Brits find it too loud and flashy. And they likely also disapprove of how poorly the parents are portrayed in the application.
