Do computers always look gray and dull? A company is now showing that there is another way and presents a case in bright colors that you can assemble yourself like a construction kit. A YouTuber has tried out the case.
Here’s what it’s about: Gray, black, or even blacker. Computer cases have the reputation of offering little to the human eye. Often, the interior, like the graphics card or the fans, blinks like a billboard. A case that blinks or is at least colorful is rarely seen. Even more rarely are there graphics cards at an affordable price.
But now a manufacturer shows that it can be different. Teenage Engineering has introduced the case “computer-1,” which appears in bright orange and thus resembles more a construction site or warning signs than a gaming PC.
The YouTube channel “Hardware Canucks” has tried out the case and shows itself visibly pleased. The price of just under 190 euros seems high, but you get a high-quality case for your money, even if the assembly allows little room for error.
A cool but extremely compact PC case
Why is this something special? The special thing about this case is not only the color, but also the way the case is built. Because in the package, you only get the stamped plates, screws, and other accessories.
After that, you have to assemble the entire case yourself. This is reminiscent of construction kits from Fischertechnik or model building from Revell. However, one must be extremely careful during assembly, as the YouTuber explains. For if you bend a component the wrong way, it is difficult to reverse the error.
You can watch the entire review in the YouTube video from “Hardware Canucks.” We have embedded the English video here for you.
Unsuitable for a gaming PC
The case is only conditionally suitable for a full-fledged gaming PC, the YouTuber explains. Because the case is only suitable for mini-ITX motherboards, and graphics cards must not be longer than 180 mm. Mini-ITX is a particularly small format for motherboards.
Many common graphics cards are significantly longer or require a lot of space due to their cooling. For example, the GeForce RTX 3060, the smallest RTX 3000 graphics card, already needs 242 mm in the case and would not fit. Tips and hints on what to look for when buying a case can be found with us on MeinMMO.
Inside the case, there is enough space for a processor with an extensive cooling solution. The YouTuber also explains that the temperatures in the case are surprisingly good. However, one must also note that he did not install a CPU with a fast GPU.
You can purchase the case directly from the manufacturer (via teenage.engineering), but as of now (December 6, 2021), the case is sold out.
What do you think about the case? Would it be something for you, and would you be excited about the assembly, or would it be nothing for you, and would you already be annoyed by the smallest screw that you have to mount in your PC? Discuss with us in the comments!
