Sony has built many AAA brands during the PS4 era to highlight its portfolio. Among them is also Horizon Zero Dawn by Guerilla Games. This seems to please a gigantic Chinese company as well, because a new game looks suspiciously similar to the Sony brand.
What is it about? The Chinese developer Polaris announced the new game Light of Motiram. Polaris is part of the mega-corporation Tencent, which has a lot of influence in the gaming industry. Tencent owns companies like Riot Games and shares in Epic Games, Ubisoft, and also FromSoftware, with whom Sony is likely in acquisition negotiations.
China has now become one of the largest developers in the video game sector, but Light of Motiram directly reminds one at first glance of the PS4 game Horizon Zero Dawn. You can find a trailer for it here:
Absolutely no shame
What is Light of Motiram? The game is supposed to be released on Steam and Epic, but currently has no release date. Light of Motiram is an open-world survival game with crafting elements. What is special about the setting is the mechanical creatures that look suspiciously like those in Horizon Zero Dawn.
Instead of a cinematic story, Light of Motiram is likely more oriented towards games like Palworld. You gather resources, fish, and build bases. Various mecha monsters can be tamed and used for combat and production. Like Palworld, Light of Motiram is also expected to offer online co-op.
Under the x-post from Gematsu, most users are mocking the similarities. @raider99k (via x.com) even writes that the cover and the colors of the game look just like those of Horizon Zero Dawn. You can see the cover here:
The user @_KeanuReaves (via x.com) writes: Absolutely no shame. I love the fact that an image like this immediately conjures up the iconic feeling of Horizon and doesn’t feel like its own thing at all.
So far, Sony or Guerrilla Games have not publicly commented on the game.
Whether there will be problems with Sony is currently still unclear. Palworld also faced accusations that even led to a lawsuit with Nintendo. However, that doesn’t seem to harm Palworld’s success: A lawsuit from Nintendo cannot slow down the success of Palworld, even surpassing Dragon Ball
