The community summit at Bungie’s headquarters is in full swing. Developers from the studio are showcasing their future plans and discussing upcoming content and the further development of Destiny 2 with community representatives. Is there more behind it this time than just pure PR?
Recently, the developers of Bungie have been holding a summit behind closed doors with select representatives of the Destiny community. The studio is presenting its future plans for Destiny 2 and hopes for valuable feedback from the invited participants to better align the game with the needs of the players and not develop past the wishes of the community.

Is this summit more than just a show? Is Bungie finally working with the community?
First participants express optimism
In the last hours, initial feedback from some summit participants reached eager fans. Although there is currently still an embargo that prevents those involved from commenting on specific details of the meeting, the prevailing sentiment among the present community representatives so far has been very optimistic.
According to KingGothalion‘s words on Twitter, there has been intensive discussion with the developers of Destiny 2. He mentioned that he was able to exchange ideas with the developers for 7 hours on the first day. Furthermore, he emphasized that the conversations have not revolved around the upcoming Warmind DLC. He does not regret the trip and believes the time spent there is well utilized. He cannot say more at this time.

The fact that KingGothalion is currently expressing optimism also makes many community members hopeful. This is because he has previously shown himself to be a harsh critic of Destiny 2.
Ms 5000 Watts also has a good feeling so far. On Twitter, she confirmed KingGothalion’s words and said that the first day was all about the September changes and that the upcoming 2nd DLC was not discussed. The participants provided feedback on the September features and were able to address all other aspects that have bothered them in the game.
When asked if September in Destiny 2 would mean a major upheaval, similar to “The Taken King” in Destiny 1, she said it looks veeeery big. The new weapon system and the weapon slot changes are indeed significant.

SC_Slayerage reportedly presented a custom-made, 42-page feedback document addressing the current state of Destiny 2 and its problems.
Sven says:
I too am cautiously optimistic given this news, especially since it actually looks like this action is finally more than just a mere show for promotional purposes for the upcoming Warmind DLC.

Obviously, there has not really been any discussion about the upcoming 2nd expansion, but rather a debate about the following period in Destiny 2. Also, Slayerage’s dossier and the length of the discussions indicate to me that the community representatives are not just there to grab new exclusive info about the 2nd DLC, but are seriously working towards a better future for the game.
We can only hope that Bungie takes this summit seriously and actually incorporates the ideas and feedback from the community into the further development of Destiny 2. So far, the signs are good. Both Gothalion and Ms 5000 Watts, along with several other participants, emphasize that their time there is respected and well utilized by Bungie.
And that it can be worthwhile to focus on the ideas of the gaming community, has already been proven by the developers of Massive with their community engagement in The Division.
This weekend, the embargo is supposed to lift, so more details about the summit can be expected.
What do you think about this summit? Just PR? Or the beginning of a long-overdue cooperation?
