Players of Call of Duty: Warzone are expecting the update for the new Season 5 2021 in just a few days. The update also likely includes the next-gen version for PS5 and Xbox Series X|S. Clues are provided by a URL of the game.
What was found: Twitter user BreadisModding recently showed that the URL of a future blog post from Call of Duty announces the next-gen launch of the Battle Royale Warzone. Although the URL cannot currently be accessed, it is likely the official URL for Season 5. By August 12th, at the start of the season, there should be more info available.
However, there seems to be bad news regarding the highly requested FoV feature. Activision commented on the topic.
Next-Gen Upgrade with Season 5 in CoD?
What kind of URL is that? The Twitter user found out that the announcements of seasons in CoD often resemble each other in their URLs. So he typed “tinyurl.com/WarzoneS5” into the browser. If you enter it yourself in the browser’s address bar, you are redirected to “https://www.ravensoftware.com/community/2021/08/call-of-duty-bocw-warzone-season-five-patch-notes-next-gen-launch”.
The page is currently not accessible and returns an error. However, the words “Next Gen Launch” suggest that there will at least be new information about the next-gen upgrade. However, it is not guaranteed that the upgrade will be released with Season 5. Yet the probability exists.
What could be in the update? Without the official patch notes, it can only be speculated what the upgrade might bring. Players wish for performance boosts on the next-gen consoles PS5 and Xbox Series X, as there have been hardly any significant improvements on the version for PS4 and Xbox One.
While you can now play Warzone on PS5 and XSX with up to 120 FPS, even more performance could be extracted from the new consoles in other areas.
What is FoV? Warzone players on console miss the Field-of-View (FoV) slider. With such a slider, you can set how far the player’s field of view is. With a higher setting, you can essentially look beyond the edge of the screen – a strong advantage if you can handle a high setting.
On PC, the slider is already available. The FoV slider is an essential part of our 13 settings that will make you better in Warzone.
It was speculated that the next-gen upgrade might finally bring the FoV slider to consoles. However, in a statement to the Warzone news portal “ModernWarzone”, a spokesperson from Activision said that the speculation about the FoV slider in the S5 update is “wrong” (via modernwarzone.com). The spokesperson also stated that the tinyurl link is incorrect. However, whether the associated information is based on facts or not, the spokesperson did not comment on that.
At least the FoV slider seems unlikely for the next-gen update in Season 5 for CoD Warzone.
