Black Ops Cold War brought a lot of new weapons to Call of Duty: Warzone and some of them are really strong. Currently, the DMR 14 marks the forefront, capable of knocking out enemies with just 2 shots. MeinMMO shows you everything important about the new standout.
What kind of rifle is this? The DMR 14 is based on the American rifle M14 and is an evolution of the World War rifle M1 Garand. It was developed in the late 1950s by the manufacturer Springfield Armory and is still used in the US armed forces today. (via Wikipedia)
Due to its higher range and penetrative power compared to similar modern weapons, the M14 is still considered an important asset in the US arsenal and currently shows its strengths as the DMR 14 in Warzone, the battle royale of Call of Duty.
Why is the DMR 14 so strong right now? With the launch of Season 1 of Black Ops Cold War, more than 30 new weapons came into Warzone. It took a few days, but then players recognized the potential of this weapon, which is essentially due to 3 strong properties:
- Good time-to-kill (TTK) for chest hits – Outstanding TTK for headshots
- Strong range values combined with controllable recoil
- The tactical rifle uses assault rifle ammunition
Thanks to its fantastic TTK values and good handling, you can send your enemies into the knockout phase with just a few well-placed bullets. MeinMMO presents the DMR 14 to you, shows a strong setup, as well as its strengths & weaknesses.
Warzone: DMR 14 setup delivers performance at all ranges
What does a strong setup look like? The DMR 14 surprisingly competes in Warzone with all-around rifles, like the assault rifle Kilo 141 or the light machine gun FiNN. Such weapons are particularly strong at medium ranges, are very stable, and also bring you success at short and long distances. So, for the DMR 14 you need a balanced setup:
- Muzzle: Agency Suppressor
- Barrel: 16.3″ Titan
- Optic: Axial Arms 3x
- Underbarrel: Field Agent Grip
- Grip: Snake Wrap
What does this setup bring? Contrary to the description in-game, the Agency Suppressor and the Titan Barrel give you bonuses on your bullet speed. This is an important value for “Cold War” weapons and these two attachments get you to nearly 900 meters/second.
The suppressor also conceals you when firing on the minimap and gives you a bit more range. The barrel increases not only the bullet speed but also your rate of fire, further reducing the potential TTK. The Titan Barrel of the DMR 14 is very strong because it provides you all the benefits without drawbacks.
The Field Agent Grip is available for many weapons from Cold War and is also a strong alternative for the DMR 14 to significantly reduce the weapon’s recoil. With the grip “Snake Wrap” you quickly aim down sights, giving the weapon a pleasant speed.
What else could I try? Depending on whether you want to use the weapon for short to medium or medium to long distances, you can focus on other strengths of the weapon.
At shorter ranges, swap the 3x optic for a smaller variant or go without an optic entirely. A larger magazine that gives you 40 shots is suggested. If you want an optic and magazine, then forgo the grip.
For longer distances, prefer the grip “Airborne Elastic Wrap”. Here you get “Flinch Resistance”, which helps you aim if you are shot at.

Pros and Cons of the DMR 14
The DMR 14 is popular because it is playable at all ranges, offers high damage, and provides good marksmen with a 2-shot kill potential. At important distances up to 150 meters, you have only 3 TTK values for the DMR 14 for enemies with full armor:
- 5 shots only chest hits – 498 ms
- 1 headshot and 2 chest hits – 249 ms
- 2 headshots – 124 ms
However, these values only apply if you exploit the firing rate of the semi-automatic rifle to the limit. Here lies also its major disadvantage – the DMR 14 is a semi-automatic rifle. Not all players like that, and it’s also a matter of getting used to.
If you can handle it, you currently get with the DMR 14 a damn strong alternative to the regular all-around weapons of Warzone, which can take down enemies faster than the usual fully automatic rifles while providing controllable handling.
DMR 14 – New OP weapon or the firearm for professionals?
Is the weapon really OP? Especially for good marksmen, the weapon is a blessing in Call of Duty: Warzone. With the DMR 14, but also the “Cold War” alternative Type 63, there is currently nothing better among the all-around weapons.
And this could indeed represent an imbalance. Normal players benefit less from the outstanding performance of the weapons because they do not focus as much on headshot damage, and the handling of the semi-automatic shots can be quite challenging. Because headshots can take down an enemy in record time at long distances, while using only a little ammunition from the assault rifle reserve, the DMR 14 stands out significantly from its direct competitors in some situations.
On the other hand, this skill advantage could also be part of the balancing that the developers want to support good gameplay with. Currently, the weapon indeed seems a bit too strong and might become subject to a nerf in the future.
The CoD expert “Drift0r” suggests in his English YouTube video about the weapon that the DMR 14 could draw from the sniper rifle ammo reserve. This would require CoD soldiers to handle their ammo reserves much more tactically, making it even harder to master the semi-automatic rifle without removing the excellent TTK potential from the game.
Another strong weapon from the “Cold War” arsenal that has made a name for itself in Warzone is the submachine gun MAC 10. Here you can find the setup of a professional Warzone player.
