The new map Caldera is here, Call of Duty: Warzone has nearly 40 new weapons. MeinMMO shows you here which of the new weapons are worth it and how the Vanguard weapons compare to the “old” weapons.
For example, assault rifles now generally feature larger magazines, but the exact details of the adjustments are still unknown. The developers state that the weapons are now in their “state 1.0”.
We have adjusted the setups to the revised attachments in the game and still recommend the 5 weapons on the list for the time just after release. As soon as there are solid analyses, you will find more on MeinMMO.
With the launch of the new map of Call of Duty: Warzone, the weapons from CoD: Vanguard are also in the Battle Royale. You will find information here on:
- The best weapons of the main weapon classes with setups shortly after release
- A brief assessment of how the weapons compare to the guns from Modern Warfare and Cold War

How strong are the Vanguard weapons in Warzone?
Shortly after release, the new weapons do not seem particularly strong. The overall time-to-kill of many weapons is too high, and in terms of stability, there are better options among the old weapons from CoD MW and Cold War.
The previous overperformers like the AK-47 from Cold War, the EM2, the OTs 9, or classics from CoD MW like the M13 or the MP5 remain very strong, unless there are further adjustments. The best weapons with setups are here.
So if you are playing the normal Battle Royale when the new map goes online for all players on the evening of December 9, stick to your old weapons. However, if you try the new “Vanguard Royale” where only the Vanguard weapons are allowed, then try our suggestions.
CoD Warzone: NZ-41 Setup shortly after release
Why is the weapon strong? Most assault rifles from Vanguard struggle in Warzone with their strong recoil and a so-called “bloom effect”. This effect prevents you from hitting the point your crosshair is aiming at.
This leads to much uncertainty when firing, and the NZ-41 can best control this uncertainty. The time-to-kill at range is 840 milliseconds with chest shots. Too high for normal Battle Royale, but a decent value in Vanguard Royale.
However, don’t keep your finger on the trigger for too long – the longer you are in sustained fire, the more the weapon fights against you.

- Kit: Fully Loaded
CoD Warzone: PPSh-71 Setup shortly after release
Why is the weapon strong? The PPSh-41 is one of the few weapons that can hold its own against the old weapons from Cold War and CoD MW.
With its huge magazines and good control, it ensures safe kills in close combat and provides you with a competitive time-to-kill of 504 milliseconds with chest shots at a range of just under 15 meters with the setup shown here.
Warzone: PPSh Setup
- Muzzle: F8 Stabilization
- Barrel: ZAC 300mm
- Scope: Slate Reflector
- Stock: Empress Own
- Underbarrel: Schnitzer Grip
- Magazine: 7.62 Gorenko 71-round Magazine
- Ammunition Type: Hollow Point
- Grip: Grooved Grip
- Perk: Steady
- Kit: Fully Loaded
CoD Warzone: Bren Setup shortly after release
Why is the weapon strong? Vanguard LMGs are a very interesting option in Warzone. The heavy weapons have some very high damage in close combat but lack the movement to be efficiently used there.
The Bren can achieve a time-to-kill of around 250 milliseconds with higher damage and 3 headshots when paired with the first barrel – which borders on cheating.
However, we recommend a stable long-range setup here, which only starts to lose damage at over 250 meters and can take down enemies with chest shots in 727 milliseconds.
Warzone: Bren Setup
- Muzzle: Mercury Silencer
- Barrel: Queen’s 705mm Royal
- Scope: G16 2.5x
- Stock: Hockenson SP2B
- Underbarrel: M1941 Handstop
- Magazine: .50 BMG 50-round Magazine
- Ammunition Type: Extended
- Grip: Grooved Grip
- Perk: Scout
- Kit: Fully Loaded
CoD Warzone: Kar98k Setup shortly after release
Why is the weapon strong? Among the 3 sniper rifles in Vanguard, the Kar is still the best option for the Vanguard Royale.
According to the first evaluations, the sniper rifles are not comparable to the meta powerhouses Kar98k from CoD MW and the Schweizer from Cold War. So stick with the old snipers in normal Battle Royale.
However, one property is really strong: with the perk “Hidden,” you can completely conceal your scope glint.
Warzone: Kar98k Setup
- Muzzle: Scout Silencer
- Barrel: VDD 660mm 05HE
- Scope: –
- Stock: Short Stock
- Underbarrel: Heavy Foregrip
- Magazine: –
- Ammunition Type: Extended
- Grip: Leather Grip
- Perk: Hidden
- Kit: Fully Loaded
CoD Warzone: SVT40 Setup shortly after release
Why is the weapon strong? The 3 DMRs from Vanguard have very strong time-to-kill and damage values in Warzone. The SVT40 hits enemies with over 90 damage to the chest and you only need 3 hits for a kill. However, DMRs use sniper ammunition.
If you are a fan of single-shot rifles, then try the 3 weapons of the DMR class from Vanguard. To start, we recommend the SVT40. If you maximize the fire rate, you can take down enemies within 600 milliseconds with chest shots.
However, if you notice that you cannot hit the chest shots reliably, it would be better to switch back to full automatics – body and limb shots are very weak.
Warzone: SVT40 Setup
- Muzzle: Mercury Silencer
- Barrel: ZAC 730mm Precision
- Scope: G16 2.5x
- Stock: Empress Crown
- Underbarrel: Heavy Foregrip
- Magazine: 7.62x54mmR 15-round Magazine
- Ammunition Type: Extended
- Grip: Grooved Grip
- Perk: Vital
- Kit: Fully Loaded
How the weapon meta evolves will have to be seen in the coming days and weeks. With the major Pacific update, there were no balance changes to the old weapons, and it is quite possible that more adjustments will be made.
If you want to have fun in the crazy Vanguard Royale with its planes and extra rules, then help yourself with the selection here. If you prefer the regular Battle Royale, then for now, stick to your familiar firearms.
If you want to read more about the new update, then check out my personal assessment: I love and hate the Pacific update of CoD Warzone – Why do you do this to me?
