In CoD Warzone and Cold War, the new “The Numbers” event has been running since September 21st. However, it is not well received by everyone in the community and has even caused disappointment. MeinMMO summarizes some reactions for you.
What kind of event is this? In both CoDs, you can unlock 9 thematic cosmetics each, allowing you to collect a total of 18 items for your loot cabinet.
The event takes place in both Warzone and Cold War. Here, as usual, there are a few differences:
- In Warzone, the new event is associated with the mobile transmission stations. These are the trucks with antennas that appear in different locations since the season started.
- For each “unique” transmission station, you receive a sticker, an emblem, or another cosmetic, as well as some experience points and cash for your current match.
- By “unique,” they likely mean the various locations where the transmission stations can appear.
What about Cold War? In Cold War, you can complete 9 gameplay tasks related to the new content of Mid-Season 5. Here is an overview of Season 5 in Warzone and Cold War.
Since yesterday, September 21st, the event is online and is causing disappointment among some players. But what is the problem?
Warzone players criticize the lack of effort behind the Numbers event
This is what is being criticized: In the CoD Warzone subreddit, players criticize various points about the event under a post by TheDudeofDudez.
The thread creator himself writes: “This Numbers event or game mode is a painfully low effort. Terrible.” The user adds that even the previous events were not good.
The Numbers, however, would take it a step further. The developers, in his view, have put in too little effort, and the mode has no effect on the game. Nothing cool happens.
Other players agree. They criticize that since the haunt from Verdansk, there haven’t been any really cool events.
What was the event that received so much praise? The haunt from Verdansk was the last Halloween event in CoD Warzone and CoD Modern Warfare.
In this event, both games received night versions of some maps, special rewards, and substantial bonuses. The event seems to be particularly memorable for many players. Not everyone shares this opinion, and some praised the mid-season update of Season 3 that brought Rambo to Warzone.
Disappointed players suspect that CoD Vanguard could be behind the supposedly declining quality of the events. Perhaps Activision is focusing its resources on the upcoming installment, which recently had its beta phase.
However, that seems unlikely since a different team is behind Vanguard, namely Sledgehammer Games, as opposed to Warzone, which involves Raven Software and Infinity Ward.
Are there any opposing views? Not all players see the Numbers event negatively. KaijuTia writes, for example: “Honestly, I had much more fun than with this weird train event.”
Some players are also happy that they can unlock the Sai melee weapon very easily through the event. This is a kind of Japanese fighting fork. JGODYT apparently managed to do it in just seven minutes, as he announced on Twitter:
Others, however, feel that this is far too easy for a new weapon that was announced so grandly beforehand. Ultimately, the feedback about the event is very mixed.
What’s next in Season 5? According to the official roadmap, The Numbers is the last major event. Starting in October, Season 6 should continue, which will likely also be the last for CoD Cold War.
We at MeinMMO will keep you updated as always.
