In Call of Duty: Warzone, Season 6 has started and brings fresh wind into the Battle Royale. There were significant map changes, weapon adjustments, and new bunkers. We summarize the most important changes.
The free-to-play shooter Call of Duty: Warzone is in the last season before the release of the new CoD: Vanguard. Season 6 has brought some new features to the Battle Royale, but the really big changes will only come after the integration of the new Vanguard into the Warzone.
Whether a look into the game is worthwhile for you, you can check in our quick review of the latest adjustments – we summarize the most important changes for you.
1. Verdansk has a scar
From the large signal array down to the hospital, a path of devastation now runs through. The stadium is destroyed, and many buildings in the downtown area are in ruins. The whole area now plays out completely differently. Instead of running through the alleys of the city, you can now run, loot, and fight through the gorge.
2. New loot bunkers at 3 locations
As before the change to Verdansk ’84 in April 2021, there are now again accessible bunkers on the map. In total, you can gather loot from underground at 3 locations. The bunkers are also not part of the large earth fissure that runs through half the city.
How to get into the bunkers, we explain in the following guide:
3. Nerfs of 5 meta weapons
The update 1.43 of Season 3 also brought some adjustments to the weapons. Overall, due to balance changes, 5 popular meta weapons are weaker:
- EM2 – Assault rifle
- C58 – Assault rifle
- Stoner 63 – LMG
- OTs 9 – SMG
- MG82 – LMG
The assault rifles and LMGs now all have more recoil. The OTs had some attachments nerfed. If you want to take a detailed look at the adjustments, check out the patch notes of Season 6. How the changes will affect the meta, you can find out in our list of the best weapons in Warzone – as soon as players have conducted the first tests:
4. Popular Iron Trials return
The new Iron Trials mode was celebrated by many players in Season 5. The mode came with special rules, and headshots with the sniper rifle were not always one-shot kills, and players’ health was much higher.
Large parts of the community enjoyed the mode and saw it as a kind of Warzone ranked mode with stricter rules. Now it is certain: you can extensively play Iron Trials in Season 6 as well.
The mode is online this weekend, and the Iron Trials will also regularly come to the playlist in the coming weeks. We will link you an overview of the modes for the next weeks here:
5. Halloween event returns – The Haunting
Also this year there is a Halloween event in Warzone again. There is still no exact date for “The Haunting.” The current roadmap indicates October 19 as the start, but the developer blog for the new season remains rather vague. The start is likely between October 18 and October 21.
What the event looks like this year is also not certain. Zombies will probably play a role again, and you will be able to purchase licensed skins from horror films again. My assessment of the Haunting event 2020 can be found here.
One of the horror skins is already known – Ghostface from the Scream series:
6. The story finds an end – On into the Pacific
The entire destruction in Verdansk and the bunkers on the map are related to the overarching story that has been advancing for several seasons. Operator Adler was subjected to brainwashing and activated seismic explosions beneath the surface of the city, leading to the massive destruction.
However, Adler has been freed, the manipulation of his consciousness has been resolved, and now he is with the legendary team from Black Ops to thwart the machinations of the villain Stitch.
This also ends the story surrounding Warzone and Cold War, and the next chapter is slowly being prepared. Warzone will get a new map, a polished engine, and a new anti-cheat system with the integration of the new CoD: Vanguard .
You can already see the Vanguard influence in the new bunkers. The bunkers come from World War II and are stuffed with stolen Nazi artworks that apparently occupied the area around Verdansk during the largest war in history.
Leaks also predict an event that celebrates the end of Verdansk to welcome the new Pacific map. More about the new map can be found here:
Season 6 starts with many changes and brings a last burst of momentum just before the big Vanguard transition.
