Yesterday, on Friday, June 19, a new playlist update for Call of Duty: Warzone was released. This basically only changes one small thing, but it causes big discussions.
What is changing: With the playlist update, the developers replace the popular Quad mode with “Realism Battle Royale.” This can also be played with a team of four, but follows special rules.
For the whole weekend, the Quads will be swapped for Realism Squads – probably at least until the next playlist update. The mode may even last longer.
This weekend’s playlist update for #Warzone is now live across all platforms! Jump into Realism Battle Royale (Quads). This temporarily replaces Battle Royale Quads.

That’s why the new mode is so harsh
What is realism? Players of the Multiplayer modes of Modern Warfare may already know the realism rules. It is a kind of hardcore mode that makes the game harder:
- The HUD is heavily restricted, showing no displayed health points, equipment, and ammunition
- You will receive no information about distance to the target (like pings)
- Weapons on the ground are not visually highlighted when they are rare and have no names
- No contracts are marked on the map, you have to find them
- No minimap
Additionally, you have significantly fewer health points. It takes fewer shots to knock you down or kill you. However, friendly fire is not active.
Players argue about realism
What is the problem? On Twitter and Reddit, players have been arguing since the update about the fact that the Quads have now been removed in favor of the Realism mode. Quads are apparently as popular as Blood Money and Loot Cash.Blood Money has only recently become playable again after being disabled.
Others feel forced to switch to the Trio mode, meaning they would have to leave a teammate behind. Professional player Jack “CouRage” Dunlop complains on Twitter:
“Lol, why? Why remove one of the main modes? Now we have to kick our 4th player? What the hell.”
Lol why? Why remove one of the staple game modes? We now have to kick out our 4th player? Like what

Other players share similar opinions and cannot understand why a mode was kicked in favor of realism, instead of simply introducing another.
Players mock streamers: However, the criticism is met with misunderstanding by other CoD players. Instead of normal Quads, we now have Realism Quads, so no one has to be left behind.
Instead, they mock that particularly streamers would complain about it. The Twitter user @NextGenUtd writes:
“Imagine the life of a streamer. The world must literally revolve around you and your content for it to be acceptable. The rest of us nobodies in this community mean nothing. This self-importance is truly astonishing.”
Whether the realism mode is really received that badly remains to be seen. However, if you want to try it out, you should keep in mind that not all advantages in normal Warzone apply here as well. It is important that your first shots hit, as they are even more crucial. With the right under-barrel attachments, aiming becomes easier.
