Since the integration of Cold War into Call of Duty: Warzone, many players are frustrated. From their perspective, the new content has worsened the situation of the battle royale instead of providing more fun. On reddit, some players are already calling for the removal of the “Cold War” content.
What is the trigger? In a now deleted thread on reddit by the moderators, user “hellorobby” demands the removal of Cold War from Warzone with the words “We can all agree on this.” The thread quickly received 2,000 upvotes and over 200 comments. The thread channels the anger of the players after the recent bugs, glitches and problems of the past weeks.
Why should everything be removed? Many users criticize that the new weapons, such as the DMR 14 and the MAC-10, destroyed the meta and were far too strong. After the integration of Cold War, bugs and glitches piled up, and seemingly fixed errors reappeared in Warzone. Discussions are now ongoing on reddit about whether the “Cold War” integration is the reason for the increased errors.
User “Uninfluenced_User” wrote under the thread on reddit:
I agree. Even though this “integration” thing brought new elements, Warzone started to go downhill. Unbalanced weapons, new bugs, a wave of cheaters. … Modern Warfare could continue for a few more seasons until Cold War is properly prepared and fixed for implementation in Warzone.
Players demand a separate Cold War map with weapons: In the reddit thread, there is a suggestion to integrate a separate map in battle royale where only the weapons from Cold War can be found. On the other maps, the “Cold War” weapons would be removed, thereby restoring balance. That something like this can work is shown by other “battle royale” titles like PUBG, where some weapons and items are only available on selected maps.
On the new map Haven, for example, there are emergency parachutes that are currently only available there – here PlayerUnknown’s Battlegrounds shows what Warzone could potentially change.
Not only the weapons are a problem in Warzone
Users also say that Cold War is not the problem – However, there are some comments that do not see the integration of new content as the issue, but rather recognized essential weaknesses in Warzone even before the influx of new content.
For them, for example, cheaters are still an omnipresent problem in Call of Duty: Warzone. Despite Activision’s efforts to combat cheaters, many players still regularly end up in a lobby with a hacker or cheater.
Another problem for some soldiers is skill-based matchmaking (SBMM), which sparked controversial discussions in the community after the announcement of the Ranked mode for Cold War. With the mid-season update of Season 1, the developers will release a roadmap with content that is set to arrive during the current season. “League Play” is on the list and is expected to arrive in Cold War by February at the latest.
Alongside this, bugs entered the game. In addition to the stim glitch, which allowed for unlimited use of tactical gear, the invisibility glitch also returned. The glitch first appeared in Season 1 of Black Ops Cold War and was also the reason why the combat helicopters disappeared from the game. To this day, the new vehicles have not returned to Warzone – unfortunately, the glitch has.
Reddit user “WweIsLife316“ describes the problems of Warzone in the thread:
The integration of Cold War is not the problem and I don’t understand why some people think it was. The game had the same errors before (there was already a stim glitch before, there were already OP weapons, there were already hackers, there were already many glitches like the frozen loadout glitch).
What’s next for CoD Warzone? After two nerfs for the DMR 14, it remains to be seen whether the community’s mood improves. Activision will likely not remove Cold War from Warzone, but will continue to integrate it into the “Call of Duty” universe.
The current adjustments are at least a step in the right direction. However, many players find it unlikely that Activision will find a way to achieve the perfect balance. Some believe it is more important to take more proactive measures against hackers & cheaters and to eliminate major bugs from the game.
What do you think about this? Has the integration of Cold War harmed Warzone more than it has helped? Do you see any issues in Warzone that the developers should address quickly?
