A player is now taking the fight against cheaters in CoD: Modern Warfare and Call of Duty: Warzone into their own hands. They are tackling the problem at its root, namely with the providers. Here is their detailed plan and how you can get involved.
This is the biggest problem in Modern Warfare and Warzone: For many, the current biggest issue in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone is the numerous cheaters and hackers, who especially wreak havoc on PC and ruin the fun for many honest players.
Although the developers are taking action against cheaters, many find it simply not enough. As a result, some PS4 players are disabling crossplay to exclude the cheater-infested PC.
What is the player’s plan about? The Reddit user and CoD player TNGSystems had had enough and quickly devised a clever plan to somewhat curb the spread of annoying cheat software through targeted needle pricks.
He introduced this on Reddit and called for a campaign against cheat providers, encouraging the community to participate. In principle, nearly anyone can get involved. And his plan has already proven effective in practice. More on that later.
This is what the plan looks like: To reduce the spread of cheat software, he is addressing the problem directly with the providers. He is trying to cut off their funding or at least make their payment methods difficult.
The sale of cheating software is illegal according to the terms of service of numerous payment services such as PayPal, as well as with leading credit card providers like Mastercard or Visa. However, many purchases in the industry are conducted through exactly this, as well as with cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin.
The plan involves participating in transactions, but not buying the cheats, only going as far as receiving the provider’s name before payment and then reporting them to the respective payment service for selling illegal products.
For this, TNGSystems has received a lot of praise and recognition on Reddit, and some players want to support him.
Does this really work? Yes, it does actually have an effect. While it cannot completely stop the spread of cheats, it can at least make it more difficult through painful and annoying needle pricks.
For example, it is quite difficult to disturb such activities with cryptocurrencies. However, these currencies are not yet as widely used and accepted as PayPal or a credit card.
And with PayPal, TNGSystems’ plan is already showing results. He participated in a transaction until he found out the provider’s name and reported it to PayPal. Shortly thereafter, PayPal took action against this provider – with success. Consequently, the respective provider’s site no longer listed PayPal as a possible payment method and only accepted direct payments or Coinbase (cryptocurrency).
TNGSystems also took action against the provider at Coinbase, but is still waiting for a response. While there are still other methods available for cashless payments, restricting the most common options for the providers really hits them hard.
This is how you can also participate: According to TNGSystems, participating is very easy. Create a dummy account on a cheat provider’s website that you find – with false information. Such sites often do not even require email verification. Select a product and proceed to checkout.
Once you receive a PayPal address or name, simply report the seller to the payment provider directly via the contact, support, or live chat with their name and the corresponding URL for selling illegal goods. That should be sufficient. You can also contact support directly via email, for example, with Mastercard.
The more players actively participate, the more needle pricks can be inflicted on the providers. A community campaign could therefore have significant impacts, from which not every provider is likely to recover.
What are the developers doing against the cheaters? Infinity Ward is also aware of the significant cheating problem and is taking action against the fraudsters. So far, they have banned over 70,000 accounts associated with cheating and hacking in Warzone.
Additionally, the developers announced new measures against cheaters just today. Some have already been active since this week. Others are yet to come. For example, players who are suspected of cheating will be matched against each other. Soon, players will also finally be able to report cheaters in the kill cam view.
