Call of Duty: Warzone received a mini-update on Friday, June 12th, which offers limited multiplayer modes for free. However, there is not only good news to report: The popular game modes Plunder and Blood Money have been removed, just as the free weekend begins.
What’s included in the update? As part of the release of Season 4 in Warzone, there was another small patch on June 12th. This changed Warzone’s playlist significantly. From now on, the following changes will apply:
- Quads and Solos have their own menu
- Regular multiplayer modes and maps are available for free until June 15, 2020
- The game modes “Blood Money” and “Plunder” have been removed.
We have already reported about the free multiplayer weekend. Such events are generally well-received by players, as they provide the opportunity to try out the otherwise paid multiplayer mode in a relaxed manner. However, the removal of the two game modes has upset many fans.
Blood Money and Plunder are gone – players ask “why?”
What were the modes about? The game modes Blood Money and Plunder had a special aspect. When you killed opponents, you earned money. In Plunder, it was a percentage of the wealth you possessed.
In Blood Money, it is even a fixed amount. It was worth killing complete newcomers who had just respawned, as they had no money but dropped the bounty.
This made Blood Money especially known for fast and aggressive action, and it was popular among many players.
How fans reacted: Thus, it came as a shock to these fans when, after the update on June 12th, neither Plunder nor Blood Money were available in the playlist anymore. Instead, there is now, alongside the regular BR modes, only the new 50vs50 mode, which not everyone appreciates. Accordingly, the reactions on reddit are quite angry:
- Scubakeep: “This makes no sense! The game mode is played by thousands, always has a lobby/group of good size, and now it’s just gone?! Come on! Instead, we get 50 vs 50, which is just a bunch of snipers and parachutes.”
- NovelEmergencyVirus: “I literally only play Blood Money/Plunder. Good thing I haven’t bought the Battle Pass yet.”
However, while many players are venting on reddit, others are more optimistic. Blood Money/Plunder will probably return when the free weekend is over. Perhaps the developers simply removed modes temporarily to make room for the regular multiplayer playlist and not to divide the player base too much:
Normally I only play Blood Money/Plunder. However, I see the DM weekend as a great opportunity to level up the Battle Pass and complete the individual character missions in it. […] They will probably bring the modes back after the weekend – although I wish they had removed one of the 4 BR options instead of Plunder/Blood Money.

So let’s hope that the developers actually act as TreMetal suspects and bring back the popular game modes after the free multiplayer weekend.
Update June 14th, 8 PM: By now, there’s a statement from the Multiplayer chief explaining why Plunder was removed from CoD Warzone.
