Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and Warzone are currently plagued by severe lags, server issues, and ghostly, empty lobbies. This led to my beautiful gaming weekend going down the drain. Infinity Ward is now giving me and the community hope.
That’s why I was looking forward to the weekend: The long weekend around May 1st was supposed to be my CoD weekend. There was finally enough time to game with friends – no, Call of Duty wanted to sweeten my time.
A number of cool things were on the agenda, the metaphorical ice cream sundae was practically topped with a bunch of cherries:
- With double experience points for weapons, rank, and Battle Pass of Season 3 the strongest attachments for my favorite weapons were theoretically already installed, and the cool skins were almost unlocked.
- As a playlist, there was the option to play only the maps Shipment and Shoot House – In other words: level weapons even faster in the action chaos
- The annoying new “camper-friendly” contract was replaced by the well-known and appreciated bounty system, which makes the sluggish midgame in Warzone more action-packed
- In multiplayer, a new variant of “Pumped” was active, – CoD’s answer for everyone who can’t stand dull tactical waiting. Just like me!
The weekend was theoretically ideal for catching up on experience, improving my own loadout, and having a lot of fun in Warzone and multiplayer. But unfortunately, it turned out very differently…
Lags, freezes, and poor connection quality in Warzone
This is what my weekend in Warzone looked like: With three companions in tow, we set off as a squad. What could stop us – apart from the 146 competitors?
Already when jumping out of the BR-typical plane, first doubts crept in. Quickly yelled through the headset: “Hey, are you lagging like that too?” The multi-voiced response confirmed the impression: “Can’t open my parachute” or “Where am I suddenly” are the euphemistic exclamations. You can imagine the harsher language in reality.
Unfortunately, this was not an isolated case. Throughout the weekend, the matches were drenched in more frustration than fun. And the problems weren’t limited to just the round’s start.

These problems led to frustration: In encounters with enemies, it seemed that not my skill, but a coin toss determined the outcome. Sometimes I simply fell, other times the enemy – none of us deserved the kill.
At home, he feels comfortable in the entire shooter genre and plays both sci-fi games like Destiny or Halo, but also more realistic ones like Battlefield or other BRs like Apex Legends.

Broken matchmaking in CoD: MW multiplayer
This is how the multiplayer frustrated me: Annoyed by the problems in Warzone, I placed all my hope on the classic multiplayer. There, at least two cool modes are waiting, so I can at least unlock some attachments and ranks in the Battle Pass.
I really didn’t want to let the fun of the game ruin, but there was usually simply no fun. Because as soon as the game search was started, I joined a long queue.
That’s why I got nothing from the XP boost: Often, the round only started with a few players after an eternity of waiting. If the player search was as fast as usual, I was put into a match that was basically already over with only a few kills possible.
Fewer kills also mean less XP – how was I supposed to benefit from the experience boost? Unfortunately, another evil joined in: after a few rounds, there were even, seemingly randomly, no experience at all.
Contrary to my intentions, after a few attempts, I had to say: “Until a patch comes, I’ll stay away from Call of Duty: MW!”
Infinity Ward wants to calm the community with a fix
Am I the only one with these problems? No! The problems I mentioned are symptomatic for many CoD players and therefore cause frustration for many. Since the updates on April 28 and 30, it simply hasn’t been running smoothly.
Even on our site MeinMMO, you are giving this frustration a voice:
Warzone is currently more like Lagzone, in gulag matches I don’t even shoot in the killcam, in the game itself, enemies usually eat whole magazines, then turn around, and I lie down within 42ms (less than my ping after Warzone lobby search) in the dirt.

This is what Infinity Ward says about it: Recently, developer Infinity Ward also commented on the ongoing problems with Warzone and the multiplayer mode. Via Twitter, Joe Cecot, Co-Design Director of Multiplayer, addressed players’ complaints:
There, it says that the problems have been identified and a fix is currently in the works.
Activision’s support also reported good news on Twitter:
This concerns a fix for problems with the Battle Pass, which is shown as inactive for some soldiers and therefore is not levelable.
When the solutions for the current problems will finally arrive is currently unknown. But we will keep you updated on MeinMMO.
I hope that I can soon enjoy myself in Warzone and CoD MW without issues. Because when everything runs smoothly, the game is a lot of fun for me and I still have a lot to catch up on. How is CoD running for you – are you plagued by the same problems or have you had luck so far?
