The hype around Warzone, the battle royale of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, has also reached Twitch. Almost half a million people followed the release on the streaming platform.
This is how Warzone started: Last night, on March 10, Warzone launched. Many fans were eagerly anticipating the battle royale, and the excitement for the release was immense.
This is also reflected in the Twitch numbers. According to PCGamesN , Warzone had 357,000 viewers in the first hour. The number even rose afterwards: almost half a million people watched Twitch streamers gather their first experiences in the battle royale.
Huge hype on Twitch – Compared to WoW Classic
Who benefited the most? The most successful streams were those of TimTheTatman and DrDisrespect. At their peaks, 61,000 and 43,000 viewers were present during the streams, reports dotesports.

What is the current situation? As of the time of writing (March 11 at 1 PM), it has become a bit quieter around Warzone. “Only” 108,000 people are currently watching live streams.
This is also because it is not currently prime time. People in the USA are just waking up, or it is still the middle of the night there. So the viewers from there are not really present yet.
Looking at the Twitch numbers from the past days on Sullygnome, one can see a huge increase in Modern Warfare. In the last 3 days, the shooter has generated over 400% more viewers.
Similar to WoW Classic? At the release of WoW Classic in summer 2019, the hype on Twitch was even bigger. At that time, over a million people were watching the streams simultaneously. Personalities like Asmongold or shroud had thousands of viewers back then.
Even though Warzone’s success is not as great as it was for WoW Classic, the huge viewer numbers are still remarkable.
Success does battle royale good: In recent months, the battle royale genre has become noticeably quieter. The success of Fortnite is slowly declining, and right before the release of Season 2, the shooter saw a significant drop on Twitch. Currently, Fortnite has 80,000 fewer viewers than Modern Warfare, for example.
So it is also good for Twitch that a new battle royale is successfully attracting hundreds of thousands of fans back to their screens.
