Call of Duty: Warzone has a massive problem with cheaters and hackers – especially on PC. Many players on PS4 simply do not want to deal with this and are now disabling the otherwise popular crossplay feature.
This is the situation with Warzone: The Battle Royale Call of Duty: Warzone is very popular among many, recently surpassing the “50 million players” mark. However popular and successful the mode may be right now, it faces a major issue on PC, namely cheaters and hackers.
From shooting through walls, wall hacks, aimbots to seemingly invincible enemies, everything is there. There is hardly anything more frustrating than losing after 40 minutes of hard fighting against an obvious cheater with 85 headshot kills in the final battle.
For some time now, there has been criticism from players and streamers on Reddit, YouTube, or social media – for example, from Ninja. Many currently regard it as the biggest problem of Warzone and are urging the developers to take stronger action. If this is not addressed, the hype surrounding Warzone could quickly fade and the game could suffer severe declines, so the general sentiment goes. Because Warzone is just not fun for most people.

This is the problem with crossplay: These issues mostly occur on PC. Because it is very easy to run third-party software like aimbots there.
However, in Warzone, just like in Call of Duty: Modern Warfare, cross-platform play is possible. Because there is crossplay between PC and the consoles PS4 and Xbox One.
This means that the cheater and hacker problem also makes its way to the consoles. There, the players also feel the effects – often very clearly.
This is how console players are solving the problem: Players on PS4 are now pushing back significantly, many simply turn off the crossplay function altogether. This way, they only play with players on their platform and completely exclude PC and Xbox One players – but they also mostly avoid the huge cheater problem of PC.
In fact, the crossplay feature is very popular and has always been well received by fans. After all, this way the player base is larger, wait times in the lobbies are shorter, and you can also play with friends on other platforms. The differences between mouse and keyboard versus controller have also been convincingly resolved.
However, the large cheating problem apparently outweighs all the positive aspects of crossplay for many. Even the fact that searching for players without crossplay can take forever seems to no longer deter many PS4 players.
How to turn off crossplay? If you want to disable crossplay on PS4, it’s very simple. Go to the options and navigate to the “Account” tab. There you will see crossplay as the first option. Select “Disabled” there.
This direct option currently only seems to work on PS4 – even though the official FAQ on Warzone (on the official Call of Duty site) does not describe any difference for this option between the various platforms and speaks generally of turning it off. However, for many players, this is far from enough and just a drop in the ocean. More and more voices are calling for a more comprehensive and tougher approach against the cheaters who are ruining the last bit of fun of Warzone for many fair players. Because in a match with 150 players, one cheater is basically enough to spoil the experience for everyone else.
Here, Infinity Ward will still need to make significant improvements. According to their statements, the developers are actively working on the issue and are pursuing a zero-tolerance policy against cheaters. It will be interesting to see whether and how the creators of Warzone can stop or at least curb the annoying cheating.
