In CoD: Warzone a player managed to win thanks to a really sneaky trick. But he admits that he is actually ashamed of it. How to still gain an advantage in a specific situation with the ‘Wheat Hack’ can be found here on MeinMMO.
The situation was as follows: The reddit user and Warzone player AntiUnicorn was in a solo match and made it to the final circle. The fight was supposed to end between Superstore and Storage Town at the wheat field.
He knew that his last opponents were nearby and used a simple and cheeky trick: he employed the ping function in the rough direction of the enemies, and as soon as he hit an opponent, they were briefly marked by the ping.
This way he could precisely identify the enemy’s position without putting himself in danger and take out the last enemies carefully. In the end, he secured the victory in this cheeky way. ‘Not a win I’m proud of, but it’s still a win!’
How to rock the wheat field with the ‘Wheat Hack’
Why the trick is unfair: The ping function is actually intended to mark enemies, items, and locations for teammates. The feature was introduced widely in Apex Legends and has since been found in almost every battle royale.
A marked opponent is indicated in Warzone for a short time after the ping with an icon. This is not a problem in itself, but in situations where terrain creates a visibility modifier, a marked opponent clearly has a disadvantage.
Because while the opponent – like in AntiUnicorn’s example – cannot see you in the wheat field, you can reveal the opponent despite the lack of visibility by wildly pinging.
The ping marker in the wheat field is thus something like a wall hack or ‘Wheat Hack’.
This is how the victory is rated: The comments under the reddit video from AntiUnicorn are mostly positive. The community largely sees nothing reprehensible about it. After all, one is in a battle royale game to secure wins and if you don’t cheat, that’s still okay.
The use of the ping is a regular game mechanic, and its use is perfectly fine. Furthermore, the situation is very specific and not reproducible in every end fight.
Also legal, but controversial, are controllers and aim assist in Warzone. DrDisrespect jokes about the discussion surrounding unfair aim assist.
