The scary Halloween event of Call of Duty: Warzone has started. You can get 9 Halloween items in a dark mode and snag a new submachine gun. MeinMMO shows you how to quickly complete the tasks and which tasks are active in Black Ops Cold War.
Under the terror of “Ghostface”, the killer from the Scream movies, the mode “Ghosts of Verdansk” has started in Call of Duty: Warzone. Instead of a Gulag, you turn into ghosts upon death, and while you are still alive, the Battle Royale terrorizes you with hallucinations and the familiar, nasty jump-scare boxes.
However, during the event, you can also grab some spooky cosmetics with a Halloween theme. If you complete all 9 tasks, you will additionally unlock the new submachine gun LAPA SMG. We show you all the tasks and how to complete them quickly.
More information about the event and update 1.44 can be found here:
1. Task – Awaken the Dead
- Play 5 matches of “Ghosts of Verdansk”
The first task is quite simple – you should play the event mode “Ghosts of Verdansk”. However, the completion is a bit tricky, as you must finish the matches. If you leave the realm of Warzone ghosts early, the match does not count towards progress.
This task works fastest when you dive into the match either with a full team or solo and let yourself be taken out immediately. However, this is not recommended, as the other tasks are also related to the mode, and you will play one round or another anyway.
2. Task – Over My Dead Body
- As a team, be in the top 10 of “Ghosts of Verdansk” 3 times
A total of 100 players are waiting for your death in the event playlist, and you must survive over 20 teams to complete the task. Thanks to the ghost mechanics, this is not so difficult. If you go down and become a ghost, you can play relatively passively and still get many opportunities to revive yourself.
To do this, you need to collect “soul fragments” from enemies, and each defeated opponent drops such a fragment. If you look at the map, you can often spot many of these fragments – even in the later stages of the match.
Play cautiously and stay in the match for a long time. If you go down, sneak around the map as a ghost and revive yourself without attacking enemies. This is a pretty easy way to make it into the top 10.
3. Task – Ghostly Realm
- Eliminate 10 enemy ghosts
For this task, you must be “alive” because you cannot deal damage to other ghosts as a ghost. The best way to protect yourself from ghosts is to stay outside of a house and leave enough space between you and the nasty spectral foes.
A good way to lure ghosts for kills into a trap is the soul fragments in the later stages of a round. If you know that an enemy died in a room, one of the fragments will be displayed for ghosts on the map. These ghosts will try to grab the fragment. Be ready – they will come.
Another tip that unfortunately is often overlooked in many horror movies: Stay together. The ghosts can confuse you, but they are fairly weak. Together or in groups of three, you also have a chance against multiple ghosts.
4. Task – Life and Death
- Eliminate 10 living operators while you are a living operator
What would a live event in a shooter be without a pure kill challenge? Here, you simply need to eliminate living opponents who are not yet ghosts. If you are playing in a team, you can use your ghost buddies to gather kills. As a ghost, you have a continuous reconnaissance drone, and you can see highlighted enemies.
Assist as a ghost in reconnaissance and let the “living” collect the kills. After that, as a ghost, you can grab the soul fragments of the fallen.
5. Task – Scared to Death
- Eliminate 5 living operators while you are a ghost
This is likely to be the most difficult task of the entire event. As a ghost, you need to make melee kills and have no ranged damage – so you need to get close to the enemy and are not particularly sturdy yourself.
Use your “Spectral Strike” to confuse enemies and try to get behind the opponent. You will need 5 hits to take down an enemy with full armor. If another enemy comes around the corner, teleport away.
If you are sure there is no other enemy nearby, use teleport to attack: confuse the enemy, beam yourself behind them, and execute a finisher – this will take the enemy down instantly.
6. Task – Boo!
- Enter as an operator again after being a ghost
For this task, you must either collect 3 of the soul fragments or eliminate an opponent with a finisher. Both will revive you and bring you back into the game as a living operator. By the way, finishers also work on enemies who have been downed and are lying on the ground.
7. Task – The Evil is Powerless Here
- Visit 3 places with holy ground to reduce your fear
In the event mode, you have a kind of “fear-o-meter”. The higher the indicator rises, the more Warzone affects your gameplay. There are some nasty visual effects that can even take your sight for a moment. By visiting “holy ground”, you can slowly reduce your fear again. As long as the holy ground is active, ghosts cannot enter that area.
Other actions that reduce your fear:
- Eliminate opposing players or ghosts
- Revive team members
- Complete a task
8. Task – Who’s There?
- Answer the phone 3 times
Across the map, you will find phones. If you hear a ringing, you need to find the devices – which is not always that easy. However, there are really many phones on the map, and you don’t have to worry about not finding the 3. Go to the phone and interact with it.
What should concern you are the effects of the phone call. On the other end is Ghostface, who has a typical line from the movies prepared and will raise your fear-o-meter. So far, we have not found any positive effects of a phone call – either nothing happens, or the fear indicator goes up.
9. Task – What Are You Afraid Of?
- 3 hallucinations with a full fear-o-meter
If you play a few rounds of “Ghosts of Verdansk”, you should complete this task on the side. Many actions in the game increase fear, and the indicator can rise rapidly.
The hallucinations during a full meter are quite brutal. Usually, it is an animation displayed during the match that obstructs your vision. It can even lead to “phantom shots” where you receive all the signs of being shot at, but no damage – very confusing.
Actions that increase your fear:
- Damage from all sources
- Camping
- Seeing dead opponents or ghosts
- Team members have been downed or killed

Warzone & Cold War: All Rewards and Unlocking the MP
How do I get the new MP? To obtain the new LAPA SMG, you must complete all 9 tasks in one of the two games – Warzone OR Cold War. It is not enough to complete 5 tasks in Warzone and then 4 in Cold War. You need to do all 9 in Warzone or all 9 in Cold War.
If you fail to complete the tasks during the event, you can also unlock the new submachine gun after the event through another challenge.
Another option is the purchasable bundle in the CoD store. For 1,200 CoD points (a little over €10), you can instantly buy a blueprint for the weapon. However, the base weapon is not included – you level the weapon through use, but you do not yet have access to the attachments and can only use the unmodified blueprint.
All unlockable event cosmetics from Warzone:
- Task: Weapon blueprint M82
- Task: Watch
- Task: Talisman
- Task: Emblem
- Task: Reticle

The Halloween event is reminiscent of the event from the first year of Warzone but does quite a few things differently. Instead of zombies, ghosts are out and about, providing an interesting change in the nocturnal Verdansk.
Additionally, you can grab many cosmetics with just a few rounds and snag a new weapon. If you have any tips on how to get the individual rewards faster, please leave us a comment.
