In Call of Duty: Warzone, things are getting dark. A possible zombie mode is approaching, and now more audio files have surfaced that provide chilling details.
Zombies in the Warzone? About a month ago, the first audio files for a zombie mode in the battle royale emerged, and now additional files give a deeper insight into a dark secret of the Warzone.
What does the leak reveal? On reddit, user “xShadowZ199” shared 31 audio files. In most of them, you can hear the typical Warzone announcer talking about the rules and the progress of the current mission. You can listen here:
In addition to the announcer, you also hear radio messages from some soldiers who are just realizing that their dead comrades are rising again and showing interest in a snack from their well-trained bodies. Among them: The very first death scream of a nibbling soldier at about 1:30 minutes.
Warzone announcer hints at the flow of Zombie Royale
The announcer makes a total of 26 announcements, giving a good insight into the possible flow of a Zombie Royale.
Announcements from the Warzone announcer
- “Zombie Royale.”
- “Zombies are not affected by the gas.”
- “Caution, zombies are immune to the gas.”
- “Be careful, zombies are more powerful in the gas.”
- “Kill them all.”
- “Defend the chopper.”
- “Final stand. Stay alive.”
- “Chopper is down, fight your way out.”
- “Extraction failed. Fight for your life.”
- “Extract failed. Fight for your life.”
- “Consume enough remains to respawn as a human.”
- “You’ll become a zombie if you die. A member of your team has to be human for extraction.”
- “Last human team standing wins.”
- “The dead will become zombies. Be the last human team standing to win.”
- “You’re out, but your teammates can still buy you back.”
- “Zombie teammate killed.”
- “Raise the dead at Buy Stations.”
- “You need to keep one person on your team alive.”
- “You have regained your humanity.”
- “You’ll become a zombie but you can still help your team take down the enemy.”
- “Consume the remains of the dead to regain your humanity.”
- “Zombies have special traits and abilities.”
- “Your teammate has regained their humanity.”
- “Use your zombie abilities to kill human players.”
- “Your teammate is a zombie.”
- “Your teammate is a zombie. Help them regain their humanity.”
How could the mode play out? If it turns out as the audio files suggest, the mode is called “Zombie Royale.” The last human team wins, and fallen players become zombies instead of going to the Gulag.
If you are a zombie, you can become a fully-fledged team member again if you devour the “remains” of defeated enemies. If you die as a zombie, you are completely down but can be bought back by your teammates.
The zombies can support their teammates and offer special traits and abilities. They are completely immune to the gas of the Warzone and even show more power within the green mist. It also sounds like the undead have special skills – they might even have a few special attacks.
The announcement “Raise the dead at Buy Stations.” could hint that there will be NPC zombies along with player zombies. With enough cash, you can then send the rotting corpses at your enemies. However, it could also just indicate that you can revive your teammates.
Moreover, there is mention of a “chopper,” which refers to a helicopter. The voice lines here remind of the smuggling mission that provides you with a rare blueprint in the Warzone. It is unclear whether extraction is a victory condition that requires at least one living team member to be picked up by the helicopter to win, or if extraction is simply an additional option of the mode to secure cash or rewards.
Audio files of the story provide details about the zombie outbreak
5 files come from other radio operators who were probably close to the infection hub during the outbreak. Names that are not easy to understand can be heard repeatedly. The transmitted texts come from the American news site Dexerto.
Story-based audios
- “Charlie Alpha One Two, they’re all dead. Only they’re not dead… they’re not dead. Oh god… what have we done? You need to destroy the samples. Enter the correction code that will sterilize all the labs. Just remember…”
- “This is station Charlie Alpha One Two, we’re under attack by some crazed, deformed assailants. We’ve lost [muffled character name – potentially ‘Hurtz’] to one of them.”
- “This is station Charlie Alpha One Two, we’re under attack by some crazed, deformed assailants. We’ve lost [muffled character name – potentially ‘Volkov’] to one of them.”
- “Charlie Alpha One Two here. Hurtz he… he was dead. We were sure he was dead. But he got up. He killed Santos and Kerney before we could take him down. Headshots seem to be the one sure way.”
- “Charlie Alpha One Two here. Volkov he… he was dead. We were sure he was dead. But he got up. He killed Santos and Kerney before we could take him down. Headshots seem to be the one sure way.”
What does this say about the story? The audio files describe a typical zombie outbreak: Something goes wrong, the stationed soldiers cannot stop it, headshots help against the undead.
The starting point is labs that are likely conducting immoral experiments hidden somewhere in Verdansk. The unit “Charlie Alpha One Two” cannot stop the outbreak and is likely to become part of the undead horde.
Really in Verdansk? This is still not very clear. Dataminers found clues in the Warzone files about the prison map “Alcatraz” from the spiritual predecessor Blackout, the Battle Royale of CoD: Black Ops 4.
It is possible that the normal Warzone map remains free from the rotting foes and the “Zombie Royale” mode will be on the comparatively small map, which only allows 40 players in Blackout.

How safe is all this? However, this is based on unofficial information. The clues provide a good insight, but it is currently difficult to say how zombies will impact the Warzone.
However, it now seems pretty certain that the undead are really coming to the battle royale. This is also supported by the concept drawings of a artist who was meant to create zombie models for CoD MW. How the undead will ultimately come to the Warzone remains open for now.
Before heading to the zombies, the Season 6 of Call of Duty: Modern Warfare & Warzone will likely start first. The new operators are known, and a large map change of the Warzone has been hinted at. Here you can find all the info about the new Season 6, starting on September 29.
