Players in CoD Warzone have long been envious of Apex Legends. Because there, multiple maps are playable in regular rotations. In Warzone, however, you have to settle for a single map. The developers want to change that, but the technical hurdles are enormous. Learn all about it here on MeinMMO.
What do the players want? Season 2 Reloaded in CoD Warzone has satisfied many players, but the community is still calling for a feature that brings a lot of joy in the competitor Apex Legends: A map rotation.
Because in Warzone, you have always only been able to play one map. That used to be various forms of the city of Verdansk. Since the release of CoD Vanguard, it has been the controversial tropical island Caldera in the Pacific.
Many players want to return to Verdansk in its various forms, but are also not completely ruling out a return to the Pacific. A rotation would be exactly what many in the community currently wish for Warzone. If Apex can manage it, shouldn’t it also be possible in Warzone?
Developers want it too, but …
What are the problems with this? In a Q&A session on March 23, Warzone Creative Lead Josh Bridges spoke with streamer and former CoD pro Typler “TeeP” Polchow about the topic of map rotations.
“We all want that!” said the developer. But there is “a technical problem”.
What exactly the problem is, he explained in clear words:
The installation and reinstallation sizes are just ridiculously high. It’s insane. If we remove Caldera and said, “Okay, we’re dropping into Verdansk,” that could basically mean a re-download the size of the entire Warzone.
Warzone has always been known for its absurd download sizes. That is also a problem that would specifically drive players away. Many would likely have found the long wait times during updates and installations to be too long and would have turned to other games.
In fact, many players have long been migrating to competitors like Apex Legends, including top streamers.
How do the developers want to solve it nonetheless? However, the developers do not want to give up. The map rotation is not off the table and they are working on a solution.
We have placed much more value on that. “How can we technically arrange it so that we have this rotation?” We have looked into it closely.
A reduction of download sizes is already in progress as a part of the solution. A seasonal map rotation is also under discussion. While this might not be the same as in Apex or PUBG, it’s at least a step in the direction that fans desire.
So much for the problems and solutions currently circulating in Warzone. How do you see the matter? Let us know here in the comments.
At the latest, when Warzone 2 appears, this feature will hopefully be part of it. What we know about Warzone 2, you can find out here.
