In Call of Duty: Warzone, the battle royale of CoD: Modern Warfare, a dirty tactic is currently causing discussions. There, a player demonstrates how he already snagged kills before even touching the ground after jumping out.
What is Warzone? Call of Duty: Warzone is the in-house battle royale mode of Modern Warfare, which went live on March 10.
Modern Warfare owners got Warzone as a free update. Anyone without the base game can play the free-to-play version “Call of Duty: Warzone”. This version is not tied to the main game, so you can play without Modern Warfare.
If you don’t have Warzone yet, here’s where to get it:
- PS Store: Call of Duty: Warzone (PS4)
- MS Store: Call of Duty: Warzone (Xbox One)
- Blizzard Store: Call of Duty: Warzone (PC)
Note: Warzone costs 25 cents in the PS Store without PS Plus (for age verification).
What’s the deal with this dirty tactic? After the highly anticipated release, many dove straight into the action. This begins, as usual in the genre, with a parachute drop before the actual match essentially starts on the ground.
And it was during the parachute phase that a method caused an uproar. A player managed to collect early kills while still in the air – and not even with the help of a bug or glitch, but quite normally.
What exactly happens with this tactic? Normally, you cannot use a weapon while gliding under a parachute. However, in Warzone, you have the option to detach from your parachute by cutting the harness.
Then you fall noticeably faster but can already use the standard pistol with which you start the match.
The Reddit user GranolaJrBar took advantage of this and used his pistol in free fall. Just a few hits are enough to incapacitate an opponent floating under the parachute (down). You can then reopen the parachute and glide safely to the ground again.
The incapacitated enemy, however, falls uncontrollably to the ground without a parachute. The subsequent unbraked impact is enough to completely eliminate the opponent and secure a kill before even landing yourself and properly starting the match.
This is how it looks:
What do players think about this tactic? The gaming community on Reddit has a split view on this. Many praise GranolaJrBar for this “agent trick” and commend his skills. In a short time, the Reddit post received over 1,000 upvotes.
Others, however, demand that the post be deleted immediately and that this method be patched out of the game. They believe it is anything but fair. Some even assume that this “feature” won’t survive a week before the developers remove it from the game.
What do the developers say? There has been no official response from the developers yet. It will be exciting to see how long this daring stunt can still be pulled off. Until then, however, you should pay attention while gliding with the parachute not to get shot down.
If you are already under fire there, detach from your parachute. You will fall faster and be harder to hit. Afterwards, you can pull the parachute again.
