In Call of Duty: Warzone Season 3 is now online and brought a lot of changes – weapon balance, new locations, a fresh mission. However, the Senior Creative Director at developer Raven Software primarily celebrates one innovation: lootable perks.
The new Season 3 of Call of Duty: Warzone changes a lot in the free battle royale. Many sniper weapons have fundamentally changed, and some places on the map Caldera look completely different. You can find the highlights of the patch notes here.
In addition, there was a small change in loot – you can now loot individual perks and benefit from the passive bonuses.
For the Senior Creative Director of Warzone, Ted Timmins, this new feature is a “game changer”. MeinMMO reports on the developer’s statements and explains the new mechanics with the lootable perks.
Lootable Perks are supposed to change gameplay experience
What did the developer say? Ted Timmins conducted an interview with the American CoD news site “Charlie Intel” (via charlieintel.com) after the release of Season 3.
In this, the developer also talked about the new, lootable perks in battle royale and expressed his enthusiasm:
This is something we have never had in Warzone before. […] a fundamental game changer for Warzone. Probably one of the biggest we have ever had. […] I can’t remember many changes to loot that had such an impact on the gameplay experience from one second to the next.
Ted Timmins, Senior Creative Director at Raven Software
How do the lootable perks work? You can now loot perks all over Caldera and add them to your loadout perks.
However, only one loot perk can be active at a time. If you pick up a new perk, the old one disappears. If you get killed, the perk disappears, and you do not leave the bonus as loot.
You can now loot the following perks on Caldera:
- Battle-Hardened
- Protects against tactical grenades
- Technician
- Detects and hacks enemy equipment
- Alarmed
- Optical signal when enemies are looking at you
- Refill
- Gives equipment back over time
- Hardened
- 2 instead of 3 armor plates for full armor
- Patch Up
- Health regeneration starts immediately after a kill
- Plunderer
- Enemies leave supply packs
- Pointman (cash only)
- Contracts yield more cash as a reward
More perks are expected to come later. By the way, this new mechanic is currently only available in battle royale on Caldera, not on Rebirth Island. Lootable perks are expected to be added later as well.
Why is the impact on gameplay supposed to be so great? The perk meta in Warzone is quite strict, and usually only a few alternatives are worth choosing. Perks like “Overkill” or “Combat Scout” are so strong that alternatives are rarely chosen – even though some can be quite helpful in gameplay.
For example, there is “Alarmed”, a very strong perk that gives you an optical signal when enemies are looking at you. If “Overkill” and “Ghost” didn’t exist, this perk would certainly land more often in loadouts.
Knowing from which direction an enemy is aiming at you does actually change gameplay quite significantly and also your behavior in the match. With more strong perks in the lineup, the impact of lootable perks on gameplay can certainly be noticeable.
Season 3 brings a lot of content and many adjustments right from the start. However, many players are now looking forward to May 11 – that’s when the event “Operation: Monarch” starts, bringing Godzilla and King Kong to Caldera.
Before that, we would like to know what you think of the lootable perks in Warzone or the changes in Season 3 in general. Feel free to leave us a comment on the topic.
