In Call of Duty: Warzone there is currently confusion about a possible nerf of the shotgun R9-0. A developer announced the nerf but then quickly backtracked.
This is what happened: On Twitter, Amos Hodge, the Creative Director of Raven Software, reported that the maximum damage of the R9-0 shotgun was reduced. According to Hodge, this was supposed to be in the patch notes, but it slipped through.
Shortly thereafter, however, the developer deleted the tweet, causing a lot of confusion. Has the shotgun been nerfed now?
Was the R9-0 secretly nerfed?
What about the nerf now? There is no official confirmation at the moment. In various forums, numerous players are writing that the shotgun is still incredibly powerful and that the nerf is not really felt. It might actually have been a mistaken tweet from Amos Hodge.
However, it speaks against this that Amos Hodge was directly involved in the patch that was supposed to have brought the nerf. He must have had some reason for that tweet. Many players are holding on to this hope, wishing that the nearly overpowered R9-0 finally gets a nerf.
Why is the shotgun so strong? The R9-0 has been considered a really strong close combat weapon since September. It was equipped with dragon’s breath ammunition as an attachment. This allows you to shoot hot magnesium shards at enemies instead of the usual shotgun pellets.
In combination with this ammunition, the shotgun wipes everything out in close combat and is loved and hated by players. No other weapon is as powerful as the R9-0 up to 8.5 meters.
The CoD professional Nickmercs already stated in early September that the shotgun is ruining Warzone, and not much has changed since then. The R9-0 remains incredibly strong, and many players hoped that it would finally be nerfed with Season 1.
What could happen next? Now we have to wait for an official announcement from the developers. The nerf may have already been implemented or is expected to occur in the near future.
