Tips for Error CE-34878-0 on PlayStation 4
What can I do against the error on PS4? In fact, there are 4 solution suggestions from PlayStation Support that you can try for this error.
- 1. Solution – Update everything
Since the error occurs after the CoD update, you probably do not need the latest version of the game. But you can check if your system software is up to date. There are occasional optional updates on PlayStation that you may not necessarily need. However, it may be necessary in this case. Go to “Settings” on the home screen and select the option “System Software Update”. Your PS4 will now search for current updates and inform you if there is anything available.
- 2. Solution – The camera causes problems
If you are using the PlayStation Camera to log in to your account via facial recognition, then this extra hardware piece may be causing the problems. Disconnect the camera and disable facial recognition in the settings. To do this, go to “Settings” on the home screen and then select “Login Settings”. Here, uncheck “Enable Facial Recognition”.
- 3. Solution – Rebuild Database
This step is not suggested as a solution by Sony, but some players report that they managed to eliminate the error this way. Also here, on MeinMMO readers solved the problem by rebuilding the database.
To do this, you need to enter the Safe Mode of the PlayStation. Turn off your PlayStation 4 completely (rest mode is not enough) and then press the power button. Hold the button down until you hear a second beep. Now you can release the power button and you will be in Safe Mode. Connect a controller via USB (Bluetooth does not work) and select menu item 5 “Rebuild Database”.
The process can take a while, but it may eliminate the annoying error CE-34878-0.
- 4. Solution – Problem with new hard drive
The last suggestion is also the most complex because there may be a problem with your hard drive. PlayStation Support says that if you have replaced your original hard drive with another model, it may help with this error to reinstall the old original hard drive.
Back up your saved data in the “Settings” under “Manage Saved Data from Applications” either in the PS Plus cloud (Saved data in system storage – Upload to online storage) or on a USB stick (Saved data in system storage – Copy to USB storage device).
When using the USB stick, keep in mind that it needs to be formatted as “FAT32”. You can usually set this when formatting on your PC. Right-click on the stick “Format” and set the file system to FAT32. All data on the storage medium will be deleted during formatting.
If you previously replaced the hard drive, you already know the process of the swap and reinsert the old device back into your PlayStation. If you are doing this for the first time: don’t worry. Replacing the PlayStation 4 hard drive is relatively simple. The PlayStation Blog offers a good guide for this.
If you continue to have problems after the swap, you can still initialize the PlayStation 4. However, this will delete all data on the drive. Select “Settings” in the home menu, then the option “Initialization” at the bottom of the menu. Here, select “Initialize PS4” and then the option “Quick”. After that, you will need to download Call of Duty completely from scratch.
Developers are working on a solution – waiting is necessary
If nothing works, what can I do now? As a last tip, PlayStation support suggests: get in touch. You can describe your problem in more detail on the PS Support page and will receive a response as soon as possible.
However, whether you receive a satisfactory solution here is another matter. For now, you probably have no choice but to wait for a patch or a solution from the developers.
The rebuilding process is too stressful for me, what else can I do? Here, the rule is: be patient. The creators of CoD are working on the problem and trying to find a solution.
What do the developers say about it? Already on the evening of September 29, Activision Support addressed the issue, and this morning the main developers from Infinity Ward also commented on it:
Tweet Translation
We are still working on this problem, but we already have a solution that we hope to release tomorrow, depending on whether there are unforeseen problems during testing. We will let you know if we have new information. Thank you for your patience.
The messages from Activision Support and Infinity Ward are not only directed at PlayStation players but at CoD soldiers on all platforms. If you are currently experiencing problems, you can only hope that the error can be resolved from the developer side. Once you finally get into the game, you should try out the new subway.
